Dort würde man alles Wichtige schneller erfahren. Matildas Mutter (Rhea Perlman, DeVito-Gattin auch im wirklichen Leben), interessiert sich ebenfalls mehr für grelle, geschmacklose Klamotten als für Bildung. Es macht Danny DeVito sichtlich Spaß, die dekadente Welt der Erwachsenen komödiantisch temperamentvoll zu attackieren. Satirische Feinheiten bleiben da manchmal auf der Strecke. (...) Frauke Hanck, AZ, 20.3.97 Matilda ist ein Kind von bemerkenswerter Intelligenz und mit außergewöhnlichen telekinetischen Begabungen gesegnet. Leider sind ihre Eltern viel mehr mit sich und dem Fernseher beschäftigt, als zu bemerken, daß Matilda etwas Besonderes ist.
