Barbara Ehnes ist eine der prägenden Bühnenbildnerinnen der vergangenen 20 Jahre. Ihre Bühnenbilder sind von unerwarteten Raumerfindungen und Architekturen geprägt, die Spieler wie Zuschauer in verblüffende Relationen zum Raum und zueinander bringen. Mit großer Kontinuität arbeitet sie seit 2001 mit dem Regisseur Stefan Pucher zusammen, dessen Inszenierungen ihre Raumkonzepte ästhetisch wie dramaturgisch beeinflusst haben. Weitere wichtige künstlerische Partner waren und sind u. a. Stefan Bachmann, Meg Stuart, Jossi Wieler und Sebastian Baumgarten. Die wichtigsten Theater, an denen sie arbeitet, sind die Münchner Kammerspiele, Schauspielhaus Zürich, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg. Neben ihrer Arbeit als Bühnenbildnerin hat sie in den letzten Jahren bespielte Installationen im öffentlichen Raum kreiert, u. a. für das HAU Berlin, die Wiener Festwochen und Theater der Welt in Mannheim, und ist seit 2011 Professorin für Bühnenbild an der Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Dresden. Das Buch dokumentiert die wichtigsten Bühnenarbeiten und Projekte von Barbara Ehnes mit zahlreichen Abbildungen und Erläuterungen im Gespräch mit Stefanie Carp und Stefan Pucher sowie Texten u. a. von Chris Kondek, Matthias Lilienthal und Meg Stuart
