A terrain evaluation method for predicting terrain susceptible to post-logging landslide activity : a case study from the southern coast mountains of British Columbia by D. E Howes( Book )

3 editions published in 1987 in English and held by 13 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A number of methods for assessing landslide hazards after clearcuttingharvesting operations by terrain evaluations were undertaken for managementand resource planning purposes, ranging from simple inventories of existingmass movements to multiple-factor mapping of slope, geology, soils, and otherterrain features. The method presented in this report is based on theanalysis and integration of base data obtained from a landslide inventory anda terrain (surficial geology) mapping program and involves: defining homogenous areas, with respect to theirsurficial geology; analysis of landslide site data to identify factorsinfluencing clearcut landslides; defining a set of terrain classes based onthese factors such that each polygon can be assigned to only one class; andgrouping the classes into 4 stability ratings based on the ratio of the numberof clearcut landslides to the number of clearcut hectares. The results of thecase study are presented and include a computer-generated landslide ratingmap and a comparison of landslide rates to documented changes in localprecipitation records since 1940
The Peale's peregrine falcon in British Columbia : status and management by W. T Munro( Book )

2 editions published in 1988 in English and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The peregrine falcon became the focus of world-wide attention after its population began to dramatically decrease in the late 1950s. Many scientific and naturalist studies followed, the results of which can be applied to peregrine falcons in British Columbia, providing a sound basis for the management of the population on the Queen Charlotte Islands. This paper presents information on distribution and numbers, biology, population dynamics, regulations and use, and options and implications of use
Second report on chemical sensitivity of B.C. lakes to acidic inputs by L. G Swain( Book )

2 editions published in 1987 in English and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Second summary report providing information (pH, alkalinity, calcium, and sensitivity rating) for 760 lakes sampled between 1977 and 1986, representing 3.5% of the total number of lakes in the province. Locations are provided for 10 lakes with a pH less than 6.0. A generalized sensitivity map for the province is also included, with the distribution of lakes by sensitivity indicator. Information is also provided on calculated relationships between total dissolved solids and several other characteristics

1 edition published in 1988 in English and held by 9 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Abundance of salal (Gaultheria shallon Pursh) and its relationship to forest overstory were studied in immature forest stands on Vancouver Island having some topographical characteristics of deer winter ranges. Plots sampled over a range of stocking levels indicated that salal density was strongly related to single forest stand characteristics but predictive equations differed between plant associations.". -- Ministry web page as viewed Oct. 20, 2009: http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/hfd/pubs/Docs/Mr/Iwr32.htm
