Proceedings of the International Workshop on Rock Mass Classification in Underground Mining by Robert J Tuchman( )

5 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 287 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Rock mass classification is widely used throughout the underground mining industry--in both coal and hardrock mines. It is used in all stages of the mining process, from site characterization to production operations. The goal of the International Workshop on Rock Mass Classification in Underground Mining was to provide a forum for leading practitioners of rock mass classification to come together and share their methods and experiences with the technique. The workshop was held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on May 31, 2007"--Page 1

Chain pillar design : (Calibration of ALPS) by Mark A Colwell( Book )

2 editions published in 1998 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The aim of this project is to provide the Australian coal industry with a chain pillar design methodology and computer based design tool that can be utilized by engineers and geologists who have sufficient experience and training in relation to underground coal mine strata mechanics. The starting point or basis of the project is ALPS (Analysis of Longwall Pillar Stability) developed by the United States Bureau of Mines (USBM). The ALPS methodology uses tailgate performance as the determining chain pillar design criteria. The work program undertaken to calibrate ALPS for Australian conditions firstly involved the establishment and empirical review of an Australian database. Secondly, several instrumented chain pillar and tailgate monitoring sites were utilized to help characterize the chain pillar loading environments and tailgate performance. It is anticipated that the initial benefit from this study is that oversized chain pillars and unnecessary roadway driveage can be rapidly eliminated from the industry. Mine managers and strata control engineers will be able to make these reductions with the confidence that a credible Australian database is the foundation for the design methodology
