Gastric bypass( Visual )

2 editions published in 1983 in English and held by 36 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

(Producer) This video illustrates the techniques of gastric bypass with loop gastrojejunostomy comparing two methods of pouch determination: measurement of length on the greater and lesser curvature versus volume instillation to 50 cc. The results in 134 patients randomly ascribed to each group are compared and there were no significant differences. The average percent of excess weight lost at 12 months was 50 + 6% and at 24 months 75 + 11%. There was no mortality and no anastomotic leaks
Endorectal pull-through and ileo-anal anastomosis in children and young adults( Visual )

2 editions published in 1983 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

(Producer) This procedure, performed in over 60 patients since 1977 with very good results, will be demonstrated. Several important modifications including balloon dilations of the neorectum to develop a pouch will be demonstrated. The procedure was introduced to the Mayo Clinic by pediatric surgery and has resulted in excellent voluntary rectal continence in all patients, no pelvic abscesses, and full activity in school or work for all patients
Radical neck dissection. by J. Meirion Thomas( Visual )

1 edition published in 1986 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

(Producer) This didactic presentation of a standard radical neck dissection discusses the various surgical approaches that can be utilized in performing this operation. The actual surgical procedure is demonstrated on a fresh cadaver specimen and is narrated. The use of a fresh cadaver is particularly useful in demonstrating the intricate anatomy of the neck and showing important structures that are preserved during neck dissection. This is better delineated using this format than is possible using actual recordings of live patients. A brief discussion of the indications for a neck dissection are included as well as postoperative care
A catalogue of the H. Winnett Orr historical collection and other rare books in the library of the American College of Surgeons by American College of Surgeons( Book )

2 editions published in 1960 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Isolation perfusion of the lower extremity for malignant melanoma( Visual )

2 editions published in 1990 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Depicts isolation perfusion through a small branch of the saphenous vein. Presents a retrospective study of 29 consecutive, non-selected patients at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Criteria for treatment with isolation perfusion were a Clark's level III, IV, or V and a clinical stage I, II, or III
Ventricular endoaneurysmorrhaphy( Visual )

1 edition published in 1990 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

(Producer) Many techniques for repair of post myocardial infarction aneurysms have been described during the past three decades. Recently we have used successfully an internal repair of anteroseptal aneurysm using a fabric patch graft to restore normal configuration and volume to the left ventricular cavity. The simplified technique provides excellent results by avoiding the distortion of the ventricle and disturbance of the surface anatomy of the heart common after procedures involving excision and plication
Aortoventriculoplasty using pulmonary autograft conduit( Visual )

1 edition published in 1987 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

(Producer) Conduit reconstruction of the proximal aortic root with hypoplasia of the left ventricular outflow tract is a surgical aortoventriculoplasty using the patient's own pulmonary artery and valve as the replacement conduit. Homograft aorta replaces the pulmonary artery. Pre-operative and post-operative echocardiograms are included
Carotid endarterectomy by John A Mannick( Visual )

1 edition published in 1983 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

(Producer) The tape outlines the critical steps in carrying out a carotid endarterectomy. Detail of anatomy, exposure, control and safe handling of the carotid are included. Animated anatomical drawings are used along with special effects to emphasize the potential danger areas and to aid in illustration of the proper techniques of management
Placement of the Tenckhoff peritoneal dialysis catheter( Visual )

1 edition published in 1988 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

(Producer) This videotape demonstrates the technique of open placement of a single cuffed coiled tip Tenckhoff peritoneal dailysis catheter done under local anesthesia with sedation. Five years of experience has eliminated many of the minor technical problems of this technique. It is superior to the more widely used technique of percutaneous placement in terms of exit site leak and infection, catheter malposition, and late hernia development
Vestibular nerve section for intractible [i.e. intractable] vertigo( Visual )

1 edition published in 1990 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Options in the treatment of familial adenomatous polyposis( Visual )

2 editions published in 1988 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Video illustrates five different clinical situations of familial adenomatous polyposis which required a different therapeutic recommendation. The discussion provides the elements of judgement necessary for their selection
Splenorenal shunt for portal hypertension in a child( Visual )

2 editions published in 1974 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This American College of Surgeons film features Dr. W. Hardy Hendren, III, of the Massachusetts General Hospital discussing central splenorenal shunts. He shows a 4 year old patient, and then operates while narrating the entire process. The film includes simplified, labeled diagrams for clarity. Dr. Hendren discusses the minimum patient requirements to safely place a shunt. In conclusion, the film shows footage of the same patient, apparently well, three years after her operation
Retroperitoneal histiocytoma involving kidney and inferior vena cava( Visual )

1 edition published in 1991 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

(Producer) Cure of retroperitoneal sarcomas is predicated on aggressive surgical intervention. This patient was initially felt to be inoperable due of extensive involvement of the cava. Staging revealed no metastases and the giant malignant fibrous histiocytoma was resected in-continuity with the right kidney, and the cava from its bifurcation to the renal veins
Electroneuronography : quantification of facial nerve degeneration( Visual )

1 edition published in 1990 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

(Producer) Electroneuronography is an electrophysiological measurement of the compound action potentials elicited by supermaximal stimulation of a peripheral nerve. In the evaluation of facial paralysis electroneuronography (ENoG) provides a quantitative assessment of the degree of degeneration. When interpreted within the pathophysiological context of the disease process, ENoG allows the surgeon to make a logical decision for facial nerve exploration
Synchronous combined resection of the rectum( Visual )

2 editions published in 1967 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This film describes and demonstrates a two-team synchronous abdominal perineal technique for resection of the rectum, in this case due to cancerous growths within the rectum. The narrator notes that other approaches have merit, but this demonstration focuses only on this technique, which involves an abdominal surgeon as lead, assisted by his team as well as by a perineal surgeon and his team, each working from different points within the intestine. The two-team approach reduces the difficulty and length of the operation and can be more effective (and possibly curative) than other methods
Nd-YAG laser arterial recanalization in reconstructive vascular surgery( Visual )

1 edition published in 1989 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

(Producer) Because of its capability to deliver increased power levels, YAG-LAR can be used in densely calcified atherosclerotic plaques, where argon-LAR cannot be used. Technical considerations of the procedure are presented
Herniation of entire stomach through the hiatus of the diaphragm into the thorax( Visual )

2 editions published in 1964 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This film discusses surgical treatments for a condition involving hiatal herniation of the diaphraghm. Typical symptoms of the condition include esophagitis, ulcers, and obstructions. Mild symptoms can be treated with antacids or helped by weight loss, but more severe manifestations require surgical intervention, which is demonstrated here in an operation on a 67-year-old woman
Preperitoneal approach and prosthetic buttress repair for recurrent hernia( Visual )

1 edition published in 1991 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

(Producer) The recurrence of inguinal hernias following repair is common. This video demonstrates the posterior approach and repair of a recurrent (direct) inguinal hernia. The use of an inlay prosthetic mesh buttress to protect the repair is shown. Using this technique, the author has a recurrence rate of less than 2 percent
Journey from silence( Visual )

1 edition published in 1989 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

(Producer) This video, artfully captures a profoundly deaf women's experience with the process of chochlear implantation from the inception to completion. Our videotape serves to emphasize the coordinated team effort involved in the restoration of sound to those who have no useful hearing
