College president and professor Robert Michael Franklin, Jr., was born on February 22, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Morehouse University, and later earned his M.Div. from Harvard University and his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago Divinity School. Over the years, Franklin worked as a scholar-theologian, educator, seminary program administrator and foundation executive. From 2004 to 2007, he served as Presidential Distinguished Professor of Social Ethics at the Candler School of Theology and as senior fellow at the Center for the Study of Law and Religion, both at Emory University. He served as president emeritus of Morehouse College, where he was president from 2007 to 2012. In 2013, he was a visiting scholar-in-residence at Stanford University’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute. He also served as director of the Chautauqua Institution, and as the James T. and Berta R. Laney Professor of Moral Leadership at Emory University
