In 1933 Kurt Singer established the Judischer Kulturbund Berlin (which later had branches in other cities as well) in order to provide cultural activities for Jews, who were prohibited from attending German performances. Activities included lectures, concerts, cabarets, and dramas, which increasingly focused on Jewish topics and works. Although the Gestapo initially opposed the Kulturbund, it eventually tried to use its activities to encourage Jewish emigration, which was a major theme at lectures and meetings. Hans Hinkel, of Goebbels' Ministry of Propaganda, was in charge of supervising the Kulturbund's activities. In 1941 the Gestapo attempted to dissolve the organization, but in 1942 Eichmann ordered its fusion with the Reichsvereinigung. Discusses activities of the organization in various cities, focusing on adult education, periodicals, and publications. --
