Endocrinology : an integrated approach by Stephen Nussey( )

1 edition published in 2001 in English and held by 139 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Endocrinology has been written to meet the requirements of today's trainee doctors and the demands of an increasing number of degree courses in health and biomedical sciences, and allied subjects. It is a truly integrated text using large numbers of real clinical cases to introduce the basic biochemistry, physiology and pathophysiology underlying endocrine disorders and also the principles of clinical diagnosis and treatment. The increasing importance of the molecular and genetic aspects of endocrinology in relation to clinical medicine is explained
Sequence - evolution - function : computational approaches in comparative genomics by Eugene V Koonin( )

1 edition published in 2003 in English and held by 121 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is an introduction to the computational approaches that play a critical role in the emerging branch of biology known as functional genomics. The book provides the reader with an understanding of the principles and approaches to the subject
The genetic landscape of diabetes by Laura Dean( )

3 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 104 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The genetic landscape of diabetes introduces some of the genes that have been suggested to play a role in the development of diabetes
Blood groups and red cell antigens by Laura Dean( )

4 editions published in 2005 in English and held by 102 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Blood type is determined by markers (antigens) that are scattered across the surface of red blood cells (RBCs). These antigens take a variety of different forms: they may be sugars that project above the cell surface, or they may be large proteins that form an important part of the RBC membrane. The presence and absence of these antigens make the blood from different people, different. And there are many types of blood because there are hundreds of antigens
Entrez( )

in English and held by 102 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Entrez is a retrieval system that provides an integrated approach for gaining access to nucleotide and protein sequence databases (GenBank, PIR, and SWISS-PROT) and to the MEDLINE citations in which the sequence were published
Antiretroviral resistance in clinical practice( )

1 edition published in 2006 in English and held by 91 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Genes and disease by National Center for Biotechnology Information (US)( )

in English and held by 90 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Genes and disease provides short descriptions of inherited disorders
OMIM( )

in English and held by 89 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A catalog of essays reviewing human genetic traits that follow classical Mendelian inheritance patterns. Whenever available information permits, each entry consists of six parts: (1) a preferred designation, and frequently used synonyms, (2) a brief description of the phenotype(s), (3) the nature of the basic defect, (4) a résumé of pertinent genetic information including mapping and molecular genetic details, (5) an exhaustive list and description of known allelic variants, and (6) key references. An attempt has been made to select references that are up to date and/or particularly useful discussions of the genetics involved. The catalog provides a bibliographic guide. OMIM is a full text database searchable by the IRX (tm) software developed by the National Library of Medicine. Access to the database is provided as a service to biomedical professionals by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine under the sponsorship of the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Energy

The NCBI handbook by National Center for Biotechnology Information (U.S.)( )

in English and held by 83 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), a division of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) at the U.S. National Institutes of Health, is a leader in the field of bioinformatics; it studies computational approaches to fundamental questions in biology and provides online delivery of biomedical information and bioinformatics tools. NCBI hosts approximately 40 online literature and molecular biology databases--including PubMed, PubMed Central, and GenBank--that serve millions of users around the world. The second edition of the NCBI Handbook, released in November 2013 in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of NCBI, aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the breadth of informatics resources at NCBI, and an in-depth account of the scope, data, infrastructure, processing, and access for each major database or resource. The databases and resources are organized here into seven concept areas: literature, genomes, variation, health, genes and gene expression, nucleotide, proteins, and small molecules and biological assays. Three additional categories encompass tools, infrastructure, and metadata. Each concept area begins with an overview chapter that provides a contextual framework for the resources discussed under that concept; the overview is followed by separate chapters that cover individual databases or resources. As with the first edition, The NCBI Handbook 2nd Edition is geared towards advanced users of NCBI resources to provide an understanding of how bioinformatics resources at NCBI work. It is not a step-by-step user manual but complements NCBI user guides, tutorials, help information, and other existing documentation. It is our intent that the handbook will reflect, to the extent possible, the current state of databases, resources, and tools at NCBI, with information updated periodically
