12 editions published in 2009 in 4 languages and held by 117 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This publication is based on a research project "Zukünftige Entwicklungsstrategien für den Biosphärenpark Grosses Walsertal (Future strategies for the development of the biosphere reserve Grosses Walsertal)", a regional economic and perceptional geographic analysis. This project aimed at an application-oriented contribution towards a social-regional concomitant research in protected areas. This approach fosters self-conception of biosphere reserves as "model regions for sustainable development."

Jenseits der Hauptstädte Städtebilder der Romania im Spannungsfeld von Urbanität, Nationalität und Globalisierung by Alessandro Bosco( )

3 editions published in 2019 in German and held by 35 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Jahrhundert

Die sozial-ökologische Transformation der Welt ein Handbuch( )

1 edition published in 2017 in German and held by 21 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Megacities : our global urban future by Frauke Kraas( )

10 editions published between 2013 and 2014 in 3 languages and held by 17 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

As urbanization continues, and even accelerates, scientists estimate that by 2015 the world will have up to 60 'megacities' - urban areas with more than five million inhabitants. With the irresistible economic attractions of urban centers, particularly in developing countries, making the influx of citizens unstoppable, many of humankind's coming social, economic and political dramas will be played out in megacities. This book shows how geographers and Earth scientists are contributing to a better understanding of megacities. The contributors analyze the impact of socio-economic and political activities on environmental change and vice versa, and identify solutions to the worst problems. They propose ways of improving the management of megacities and achieving a greater degree of sustainability in their development. The goals, of wise use of human and natural resources, risk reduction (both social and environmental) and quality of life enhancement, are agreed upon. But, as this text proves, the means of achieving these ends are varied. Hence, chapters cover an array of topics, from health management in Indian megacities, to planning in New York, to transport solutions for the chronically traffic-choked Bangkok. Authors cover the impact of climate change on megacities, as well as less tangible issues such as socio-political fragmentation in the urban areas of Rio de Janeiro. This exploration of some of the most crucial issues that we face as a species sets out research that is of the utmost importance, with the potential to contribute substantially to global justice and peace - and thereby prosperity

Reconstructing contested landscapes Dynamics, drivers and political framings of land use and land cover change, watershed transformations and coastal sedimentation in Java, Indonesia by Martin C Lukas( )

1 edition published in 2015 in English and held by 16 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The dissertation examines land use, watershed, and coastal dynamics, their drivers, and related environmental governance and management approaches in Java, Indonesia. It questions long-standing narratives about the drivers of high river sediment loads and coastal sedimentation and contributes new insight into the dynamics and causes of these processes. The research thus deconstructs political discourses about watershed and coastal change and reconstructs these dynamics. It combines political ecology, land change science and historical cartography and utilises a broad range of related methods to directly link physical environmental changes with (historically rooted) struggles over resource access and control, and related political framings and modes of action. The most insightful findings of this research were generated at the intersections of the different themes, approaches and methods
