Agrippina by
George Frideric Handel(
)
19 editions published between 1997 and 2007 in 4 languages and held by 449 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Composed in 1709, Agrippina is an opera seria in three acts on a libretto by Cardinal Vincenzo Grimani. The opera tells the story of Agrippina, the mother of Nero, as she plots the downfall of the Roman Emperor Claudius and the installation of her son as emperor. Grimani's libretto, considered one of the best that Handel set, is full of topical political allusions. Some believe that it reflects the rivalry between Grimani and Pope Clement XI. Jacobs performs the work in its original version

In the 18th century, no man was more famous, more beloved, or more celebrated than the man called Farinelli. The amazing true story of the world famous castrato comes brilliantly to life in a sumptuous and sexy drama of high notes and even higher passions. With all the charisma, talent, drive and success of a modern-day rock star, Farinelli had everything: money, talent, fame, women... and the voice of an angel. He became obsessed with earning the respect of his brother's rival, the composer Handel. / Recreating his remarkable voice and vocal range used the voices of two modern singers plus a great deal of computer processing
