The Leslie Uggams beauty book by Leslie Uggams( Book )

4 editions published between 1966 and 1972 in English and held by 158 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Taken at face value, well, how else would you take a beauty book, this is eminently safe advice to all teen-aged girls to cultivate a ""natural"" look-- groom yourself carefully at all times while avoiding extremes, wigs or color dyes. Hygienic routines, say proper cleansing and diet if necessary to acquire an unblemished skin, or eating the right nutritional, non-fattening foods if you are overweight, are observed as well as the more glamorous procedures (lipsticks and eyeliners and bubble baths) when you can choose from ""that wide wonderful world of cosmetics."" The primary value of the book, as against other cosmetic books, is that Leslie Uggams is a Negro and has something to say to girls with darker skins whether in finding the right make-up or protecting their skin from overexposure to the sun. She is also a popular television personality with a readymade market which will perhaps overlook the confidential you-me-me-too approach (for which perhaps Marie Fenton is responsible)
