The objectives of the project were: 1) to conduct comparable Fertility and Family Surveys in UNECE member countries; 2) to create and archive FFS Standard Recode Files (SRFs); 3) to prepare FFS Standard Country Reports (SCRs); 4) to carry out a program of cross-country comparative research. The FFS IWG organized an end-of-project conference; the FFS Flagship Conference became an occasion for many researchers to present their findings of comparative analyses based on FFS data, in particular those studying partnership and fertility behavior. Volume one presents selected contributions to the FFS Flagship Conference solicited by the Organising Committee of the Conference. The second volume presents contributions received in response to a call for papers issued by the Organising Committee

Preventing HIV/AIDS in young people : a systematic review of the evidence from developing countries by David A Ross( )

10 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 124 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Young people are particularly vulnerable to HIV: 15-24 year olds account for 50 percent of new cases. Five to six thousand youths become infected every day, most of them in developing countries. The UN General Assembly Special Session on AIDS in June 2001 set a number of goals to drive efforts to reduce prevalence in this age group. This report provides evidence-based recommendations for policy-makers, program managers and researchers to guide efforts towards meeting the UN goals on HIV/AIDS and young people. These goals aim to decrease prevalence and vulnerability; and to increase access to information, skills and services. This report provides a systematic review of the effectiveness of interventions provided: through schools, health services, mass media, communities, and to young people who are most vulnerable to HIV infection.--Publisher's description
Emerging issues of health and mortality in the Asian and Pacific region by ESCAP (Bangkok)( Book )

4 editions published in 2005 in English and held by 73 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This publication contains a selection of the papers that were presented at the Seminar on Emerging Issues of Health and Mortality, held at Bangkok from 27 to 29 September 2004, providing both a broad view of the mortality situation in the region and country-specific profiles of various aspects of mortality. They show that the Asian and Pacific region has experienced a remarkable increase in life expectancy at birth thanks to the many improvements in health-care services and socio-economic conditions during the past 50 years. Although the trend of falling mortality rates is clearly evident in the region as a whole, there is a large disparity in the health and mortality situation between subregions and even within countries

The State of the World's Midwifery (SoWMy) 2014 presents findings on midwifery from 73 low and middle- income countries. The report, produced by UNFPA, the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), the World Health Organization (WHO) and several other partners, shows the progress and trends that have taken place since the inaugural 2011 edition, and also identifies the barriers and challenges to future progress. The report focuses on the urgent need to improve the availability, accessibility, acceptability and quality of midwifery services. Despite a steady drop in maternal and newborn deaths since 1990, hundreds of thousands of women and newborns continue to die each year during pregnancy and childbirth: An estimated 289,000 women and about 3 million newborn babies died in 2013 alone. The vast majority lost their lives due to complications and illnesses that could have been prevented with proper antenatal care and the presence of a skilled midwife during delivery
