Handbook of glycomics by Richard D Cummings( )

17 editions published between 2009 and 2011 in English and Spanish and held by 430 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Written for a range of readers from glycobiology investigators to researchers and students in genomics, proteomics, systems biology, bioinformatics and novel therapeutics, this handbook defines why all complex carbohydrates in organisms need to be studied. It begins by describing analytic approaches and bioinformatics, and moves on to provide a detailed discussion of relevant databases, data integration, and analysis. A discussion of various model organisms and pathogen glycomes is then followed by detail on therapeutic approaches to human disorders of glycosylation. Structure and function of glycomes are included along with state-of-the-art technologies and systems approaches to the analysis of glycans."--BOOK JACKET
Galectins : methods and protocols by Sean R Stowell( )

10 editions published between 2014 and 2015 in English and held by 149 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Galectins: Methods and Protocols is the first book solely dedicated to methodological approaches designed to study galectin function. The galectin family represents one of the most pleiotropic families, with individual members having been implicated in various aspects of nearly every biological process described, from RNA splicing to complex regulatory circuits that orchestrate adaptive immunity. Given the diverse roles of galectins in a variety of biological systems, studying these glycan binding proteins often requires the assimilation of diverse technical skills to fully appreciate their biological function. Their nearly ubiquitous expression and ability to bind highly modifiable carbohydrate ligands, in addition to a variety of other regulatory proteins, allows these glycan binding proteins (GBPs) to possess the capacity to regulate a wide variety of biological processes. Individual chapters are dedicated to examining salient features of galectin functions. Written in the successful Methods in Molecular Biology series format, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible protocols, and notes on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and easily accessible, Galectins: Methods and Protocols seeks to serve both professionals and novices with a useful framework when examining galectin function for many years to come

Design and Production of Damage-Resistant Tray Pack Containers( )

1 edition published in 1985 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The tray pack is a food container that serves the functions of food storage vessel; food heating vessel; and food serving vessel. The lid is drawn from 90-pound per base box (0.010-inch-thick) steel. The bottom or can is drawn from 90-pound per base box (0.010-inch-thick) steel. Both top and bottom have a polymeric inner linear and an outer organic coating. The cause of tray pack damage were determined to be: prestressing caused by vacuum packing and underfilling; hydrodynamic forces induced by relative fluid motion within the tray pack at the moment of impact during dropping; and denting of the thin tray body material. The inability of the tray pack shipping container to withstand stacking loads was determine to be cuased by poor tolerances of the shipping containers and denting of separation pads by the tray lid sealing seam. Test results show that damage can be prevented by avoiding vacuum packing making the tray packs from 98-pound material, using a tray pack design employing reinforcing beads, using pads that nest within the sealing seam of the tray pack, and packing the tray packs so that the lids of the bottom two face down and top two face up. Test results also show that unit loads of tray packs can be stacked four high by using a properly dimensioned telescoping shipping container, the nesting pads and the two-up, two-down packing technique. GlyTouCan: an accessible glycan structure repository( )

1 edition published in 2017 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Abstract Rapid and continued growth in the generation of glycomic data has revealed the need for enhanced development of basic infrastructure for presenting and interpreting these datasets in a manner that engages the broader biomedical research community. Early in their growth, the genomic and proteomic fields implemented mechanisms for assigning unique gene and protein identifiers that were essential for organizing data presentation and for enhancing bioinformatic approaches to extracting knowledge. Similar unique identifiers are currently absent from glycomic data. In order to facilitate continued growth and expanded accessibility of glycomic data, the authors strongly encourage the glycomics community to coordinate the submission of their glycan structures to the GlyTouCan Repository and to make use of GlyTouCan identifiers in their communications and publications. The authors also deeply encourage journals to recommend a submission workflow in which submitted publications utilize GlyTouCan identifiers as a standard reference for explicitly describing glycan structures cited in manuscripts
The production of intense magnetic fields by means of liquid nitrogen cooled copper coils( Book )

1 edition published in 1965 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The investigation was undertaken to study the problem of production of intense, continuous magnetic fields using low temperature coils. Using a standardized 5 in 0.D. 2-1/2 in wide solenoid configuration, a variety of coolant passage geometries and coil manufacturing techniques for producing coolant passages were tested. The solenoids are evaluated on the basis of cooling ability (power dissipated for a maximum flux density) and ease of manufacture. With liquid nitrogen being supplied at a rate of approximately 50 GPM, a maximum flux density of 77 kilogauss was measured in a .5 in air bore while dissipating 86 kilowatts of power. (Author)
Tray Pack Improved Durability Packaging Rough Handling Test Results( )

1 edition published in 1985 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The causes of damage to Tray Pack containers during rough handling were determined. Several concepts for increasing the stiffness of the Tray Pack container were developed. Prototypes were fabricated and tested. Shipping containers were tested for their ability to withstand the crushing load resulting from stacking unit loads. Test results indicated that increasing the base weight of the Tray Pack material, adding reinforcing beads to both top and bottom surfaces, and making sure that each Tray Pack was thoroughly filled to avoid vacuum stresses resulted in a much more damage-resistant Tray Pack container. Test results also indicated that increases in shipping container rigidity are required so that unit loads can be stacked. Specifically, the shipping containers are to be smaller so that Tray Packs will fit more snugly inside and bear a portion of the load
