A.R. Ammons and the poetics of widening scope by Steven P Schneider( Book )

6 editions published between 1993 and 1994 in English and held by 387 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Ammons's poems also reflect and probe the intricate processes of the natural world, and Schneider writes lucidly about these complex scientific concepts - the light cone, quantum physics, the origins of the universe - in order to illuminate Ammons's poetry of cosmos and consciousness
The magic of mariachi = La magia del mariachi by Steven P Schneider( )

5 editions published in 2016 in English and Spanish and held by 303 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In addition to works that express the romantic themes of mariachi music, these poems and paintings speak to the contemporary and historical social context of this magical musical tradition, including women who assert their voices and identities through their instruments and 'dreamers' who liv between two worlds."--Publisher's description
Complexities of motion : new essays on A.R. Ammons's long poems( Book )

6 editions published between 1999 and 2000 in English and held by 272 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This volume gathers new essays on A.R. Ammons's long poems by many of the most influential critics of contemporary American poetry, including Helen Vendler, Marjorie Perloff, and Willard Spiegelman. It will serve for years to come as an important critical text on a vast body of work by one of the most prolific and innovative practitioners of the long poem in post-World War II American poetry. Complexities of Motion, then, is a collection of new critical articles on the entire range of Ammons's longer poems, beginning with Tape for the Turn of the Year (1965) and culminating with Glare (1997)."--Jacket

Hypersonic Laminar Instability on Round Cones Near Zero Angle of Attack by Steven P Schneider( Book )

3 editions published between 2001 and 2006 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Reliable predictions for hypersonic laminar-turbulent transition will have to be based on simulation of the transition mechanisms. Accurate simulation of the second-mode instability-wave growth on a round cone at zero angle of attack would be a significant step toward this goal. Hypersonic stability experiments in this geometry are reviewed, and three are selected. Extensive and previously unpublished data from Stetson's sharp and blunt cone experiments are reported. Approximate computations were carried out using inviscid-boundary-layer and eN methods. The experimental results are compared to previous high-accuracy computations and to the present approximate computations. Quantitative agreement is at present insufficient for reliable eN predictions. The difficulties with both experiment and computation are described
Effects of controlled three-dimensional perturbations on boundary layer transition by Steven P Schneider( Book )

2 editions published in 1989 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The laminar-turbulent transition in a flat plate boundary layer was studied experimentally using a spanwise array of computer-controlled surface heating elements to introduce disturbances at a point just downstream of the critical Reynolds number. Measurements were made using flush-mounted hot-film wall shear sensors, and the later stages of transition were visualized using dye injection. Measurements of oblique waves in the linear region yielded phase speeds and wave angles that were consistent with the linear theory. In the nonlinear region, the amplitude of subharmonic waves decreased abruptly with increasing oblique-wave angle, so that an oblique wave of about 10 degrees had a subharmonic amplitude which was an order of magnitude below that for a 2D wave. A simple explanation of this behavior is given, in terms of the wave-interaction theory. The intermittency, was measured to determine the relative location of transition. The introduction of a 2D wave is most effective in moving the transition point upstream for a given power input. (JHD)
Laminar-Turbulent Transition in High-Speed Compressible Boundary Layers: Continuation of Elliptic-Cone Experiments( Book )

2 editions published in 2000 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This grant supported experimental research into high-speed laminar-turbulent transition. While it began as a one-year effort extending our earlier work on elliptic cones, it became increasingly evident that the low quiet Reynolds number available in the Mach-4 quiet Ludwieg tube was limiting the usefulness of the measurements. Although useful results for instability and transition were nevertheless obtained, the emphasis shifted toward development of a high Reynolds number Mach-6 quiet Ludwieg tube. Instrumentation development also continued, in the form of a series of experiments carried out at low quiet Reynolds number in the existing Mach-4 Ludwieg tube. Experiments with the laser perturber, glow perturber, hot wire, laser-differential interferometer, and hot films are summarized. These experiments were carried out on elliptic cones, round cones, and a scramjet-inlet model
Hypersonic Boundary-Layer Transition Research in the Boeing/AFOSR Mach-6 Quiet Tunnel( Book )

2 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This grant was redirected to focus on the search for high-Reynolds-number quiet flow in the Boeing/AFOSR Mach-6 Quiet Tunnel at Purdue. Quiet flow with freestream noise levels comparable to flight requires maintaining laminar nozzle-wall boundary layers; this becomes increasingly difficult, and increasingly useful, as the Reynolds number increases. After nearly five years of shakedown, quiet flow was finally achieved to a freestream unit Reynolds number of 2.8 million per foot, in early 2006. Although this is 90% of the prefabrication design value, it is achieved only intermittently. The masimum feasible quiet-flow Reynolds number remains to be determined, along with the conditions for achieving it reliably. Nevertheless, the facility is presently the only hypersonic quiet tunnel, anywhere in the world, and affordable operating costs have been maintained
