Autobiographical memoir of Jonathan Mix (1753-1817), a direct descendant in the fourth generation of immigrant Thomas Mix (Meekes) who settled in New Haven, Connecticut in 1643. Jonathan was born in New Haven, and served in the Revolutionary War. He was also well known as an inventor, chiefly for vehicles (horse-drawn usually) and for military weapons. He was captured by the British and imprisoned on a prison ship, and finally released in June 1782 after the fighting has ceased. Includes the four generations of ancestors in New Haven, and descendants and relatives to 1886 in New England, New York, Virginia, Louisiana and elsewhere
