Iraq : what next? by Joseph Cirincione( Book )

4 editions published in 2003 in English and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Provides a concise outline of the concerns over Iraq's missile, nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons capabilities that inspectors are investigating. It addresses the effectiveness of intelligence sharing, site visits, the inspectors' use of advanced technology, and Iraq's willingness to cooperate. The report argues that a realistic timeframe for inspections is another year for the discovery process, followed by dismantlement and permanent monitoring. Among its conclusions: far from being exhausted, the inspections process has just begun. Inspections should be pursued without ruling out future use of force. Iraq's lack of full cooperation is a material breach, but not a casus belli. As the report argues, disarmament achieved without a war would be an enormous, and enormously popular, achievement. However, if the aim is not, in fact, disarmament but regime change as a matter of principle, then the inspection and disarmament processes now underway are largely irrelevant

From victory to success : afterwar policy in Iraq( )

1 edition published in 2003 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The fog of war in Iraq is gone, only to be replaced, it seems, by the fog of afterwar. Questions sprout like weeds in the rubble of Saddam Hussein's palaces. Did the war stoke or help curb terrorism? What message did Saddam's fall send to other dictators? Will it help the world reach a new consensus on how to handle weapons of mass destruction? What is the best way to rebuild Iraq? How can the United States recover its legitimacy in the eyes of much of the world? The answers to such questions will help determine history's verdict on the wisdom of the war and shape the future for decades to come. In this special report, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, working with Foreign Policy, seeks to address some of the afterwar's most pressing issues and to offer a framework for turning victory into success."--Editor
