Ulysses en-gendered perspectives : eighteen new essays on the episodes ( Book )
8 editions published between 1998 and 1999 in English and held by 458 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"In the collection of essays that Kimberly J. Devlin and Marilyn Reizbaum have edited, each of the eighteen contributors, all prominent Joyce scholars, offers new commentary on one of the eighteen episodes in Ulysses. Throughout Ulysses - En-Gendered Perspectives the common critical concern is with varying articulations of "femininities" and "masculinities" in Joyce's modernist epic. Each contributor attends to the extensive and various markings of gender in Ulysses and examines the ways in which such markings generate and engender other meanings."--BOOK JACKET

Joycean cultures, culturing Joyces ( Book )
3 editions published in 1998 in English and held by 342 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This volume presents a cultural criticism that analyzes the politics, art, fashion, and constructions of the body inscribed and transcribed in the Joycean text. The essays illustrate the dynamic interaction of art, culture, and criticism. They simultaneously explore the impact that Joyce's own culture, both high and low, had on his art, while assessing Joyce's reciprocal influence on our own contemporary culture. Following the paths of a long and pluralistic tradition of Joyce criticism, the new methodologies in this volume create, or culture, a new Joyce for the nineties

Self, language and the other : an integrative approach to the works of James Joyce by Kimberly J Devlin ( Book )
2 editions published between 1985 and 1989 in Undetermined and English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
My dissertation explores Joyce's representation of the self in language, the individual within the larger textual network that constitutes culture. The issues focussed on are: (1) language as the medium of the self's desires, as the medium that speaks, betrays and arouses them; (2) the alienating effects of language, the ways in which it renders knowledge of the self indirect, ex-centric, and personal memory uncertain; (3) the representation of self and other as texts to be read and interpreted
