This documentary examines the dynamic exchange between tradition and singer. The `sean-nos' tradition (literally Gaelic for 'old style') is the oldest living tradition in Irish music culture and this is Sinead O'Connor's personal and musical homage to that tradition. Having lived for 17 years in England, O'Connor has been influenced by the Afro-Caribbean community, and musical elements and styles learnt while living in that community are mixed together for the first time with this collection of Irish songs. This documentary features powerful renditions of Irish song performed by both O'Connor and others, and interviews in which O'Connor talks of her life and her musical influences. Off-air, SBS, 28/7/03, (52 min.)
