Approximately one-half of the Durr Papers reflect the activities of his personal life, but Durr's government activities in the Reconstruction Finance Corporation (RFC) are contained as well. The RFC provided loans to railraods, banks, agricultural agencies, industry, and commerce in order to help restore the economy. The collection also contains materials from 1940-1941 on an RFC subsidiary, the Defense Plant Corporation (DPC). The latter agency was created in 1940 to handle the conversion and expansion of industry to prepare for war with Germany and Japan. Materials on the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) are included for the period in which Durr served as commissioner, 1941-1948. The beginnings of education broadcasting in the U.S. is covered as is the Eugene Cox affair. The FCC regulatory policies and procedures for wartime and peace-time broadcasting are contained, as are materials related to the House Committee on Un-American Activities from 1941-1951. In the personal life and private practice series are materials related to the 1954 U.S. Senate Internal Security subcommittee hearings held in New Orleans, La., on the Southern Conference Educational Fund, which involved both Clifford and Virginia Durr, and on the civil rights movement in the South from 1954-1969.
