This report contains the papers presented at the Seminar on Rail Freight Research and Development held in Montreal on June 12 and 13, 1986, and sponsored by the Transportation Devlopment Centre (TDC) in cooperation with the Railway Advisory Board of the Railway Association of Canada. The papers deal with a portion of the work done in the four major areas of R & D embraced by the TDC Rail Freight R & D Program: motive power, freight cars, track, and signalling and communications. Also included in the report are the proceedings of the Railway Advisory Board meeting held on the second day of the seminar, at which the papers presented on the previous day were reviewed and potential future courses of cooperative rail freight research discussed
