12 editions published between 2003 and 2017 in English and held by 479 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This book draws attention to the vigour and vitality of ancien-regime France and emphasizes the role played by the Bourbon monarchy in constructing an agenda for change. Starting with the visible crumbling of monarchical power in 1787 and ending with the demise of the republic in 1804, it lays bare the process of Revolutionary change." "A Chronology, Who's Who of key characters and Glossary are also provided to ensure that this is an indispensable textbook for students studying the French Revolution."--Jacket
Reform and revolution in France : the politics of transition, 1774-1791 by Peter Jones( Book )

15 editions published in 1995 in English and held by 453 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This textbook has been written to help teachers and students to pilot their way through the enormous and ever expanding literature on the French Revolution. The author makes a conscious effort to combine social and political interpretations of the origin of the Revolution and offers a synthesis which takes full account of current debates. He also seeks to restore the Revolution to its domestic environment. Notwithstanding the powerful contemporary myth of rupture, the author argues that the dramatic events of 1789 need to be considered alongside the reform achievements of Bourbon absolute monarchy. The result is a new account of the gestation of the Revolution which is both up-to-date and satisfying in its range of vision
Politics and rural society : the southern Massif Central, c. 1750-1880 by Peter Jones( Book )

18 editions published between 1985 and 2011 in English and held by 411 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is a study of rural society, with particular reference to the peasantry. It focuses on an area of France which is defined as the southern Massif Central, the four departments forming the southern perimeter of the highland plateau of central France, and spans a century which marked the apogee of peasant civilisation in this region and which witnessed the revolutions of 1789 and 1848. The book adopts a broadly cultural definition of the peasantry, and offers a comprehensive account of the rhythms of rural life over some three or four generations. However, the main emphasis is on the political responses of the peasantry in an age of revolutionary experimentation with democratic institutions. As such the book is a social history of political behaviour at the grass roots
Liberty and locality in revolutionary France : six villages compared, 1760-1820 by Peter Jones( Book )

20 editions published between 2003 and 2007 in English and held by 388 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This book examines the interface between the old and the new France in the period 1760-1820. It adopts an unusual 'comparative micro-historical' approach in order to illuminate the manner in which country dwellers cut themselves loose from the congeries of local societies that made up the ancien regime, and attached themselves to the wider polity of the revolutionary and Napoleonic state."--Jacket

This paper describes a collaborative study between the Division of Transportation Engineering at SINTEF (The Foundation for Scientific and Industrial Research at the Norwegian Institute of Technology) in Trondheim, and the Transport Studies Unit at the University of Oxford. The objective of the study was to assess the response of car drivers to a proposed toll ring in Trondheim, using a stated preference survey technique. The paper briefly describes the setting of Trondheim and the toll ring proposals and outlines the design of the stated preference instrument, which was based on a customised mailback approach integrated with a city-wide travel diary survey. The results of the survey are then briefly described and some preliminary choice modelling results are presented.
