Michaël Borremans : as sweet as it gets by Michaël Borremans( Book )

7 editions published in 2014 in English and Dutch and held by 206 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Since the late 1990s, when he first began to produce drawings and paintings, Michaël Borremans has created an extraordinarily mature body of work that has captured international attention. The disparate spaces he imagines in his paintings, drawings, sculptures and films are unified by an uncanny sense of dislocation and an often unsettling beauty. Rendered in complex palettes and exquisite techniques, Borremans' works in all media embrace a rich legacy of artistic progenitors, but remain firmly anchored in the present. Presenting over 100 works created by the artist over a 14-year period in all media, this publication includes many works not previously reproduced in books or catalogues, offering the most complete overview of Borremans' oeuvre to date. Contributions include a concise and incisive overview of Borremans' practice; a revealing, in-depth interview between the main author of the book, Jeffrey Grove, and the artist, addressing process, influence and philosophical and critical issues; as well as more than 50 individual entries and mini-essays on individual works in the artist's oeuvre by notable writers, curators, filmmakers and musicians. Described by the artist as "the mother of all Borremans books," Michaël Borremans: As Sweet As It Gets is published on the occasion of a major mid-career retrospective. Initially trained in photography and graphic design, the Belgian artist Michaël Borremans (born 1963) turned to painting at the age of 30. Work by the artist is held in numerous public collections, including The Art Institute of Chicago; High Museum of Art, Atlanta, Georgia; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Borremans lives and works in Ghent."--Amazon.com, viewed August 14, 2014

La dinastia Brueghel by Sergio Gaddi( Book )

5 editions published in 2012 in Italian and held by 134 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This volume celebrates the Bueghel dynasty, a family of Flemish painters who made an indelible mark on the history of European art in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. More than 100 selected paintings and drawings provide a wonderful opportunity to admire unique masterpieces: the beautiful snowy Northern European landscapes, rural scenes, village fetes and still lifes, all of which strike us for their meticulous attention to detail. The works are reflections on human existence, bringing together the sacred and the profane, faith and superstition, the cult of beauty and the seductive qualities of the grotesque."--Page 4 of cover
Fiona Tan : geography of time by Sabrina van der Ley( Book )

3 editions published in 2015 in English and Hebrew and held by 122 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The exhibition "Geography of time", touring four countries, brings together works by Fiona Tan that explore the themes of memory and identity in mesmerizing ways. Deeply embedded in all of Tan's work is her fascination with the mutability of identity, the deceptive nature of representation and the play of memory across time and space. Fiona Tan's film and video practice explores notions of individual and collective identity in a world increasingly shaped by global culture and the histories and journeys that form it. 0Exhibition: Nasjonalmuseet, Oslo, Norway (25.09.2015-31.01.2016)

Günther Förg : photographs : Bauhaus Tel Aviv--Jerusalem by Günther Förg( Book )

4 editions published in 2002 in English and held by 108 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Gunther Forg's artistic oeuvre encompasses paintings, graphic and sculptural works as well as a large body of architectural photographs. In 2001 he shot a series about Bauhaus architecture in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. The buildings were designed in the 1930s and 40s, largely by architects who had emigrated from Europe. Their intention was to implement the social, technical and aesthetic properties of Bauhaus. Arieh Sharon, Sam Barkai, Genia Averbouch, Ze'ev Haller, Pinchus Hutt, Richard Kauffmann, Erich Mendelsohn and others endeavoured to build affordable housing for the present wave of immigration. Forg's photographic research using a 35mm camera and zoom lens presents the uncompromisingly modern architecture in an unembellished way, sometimes dilapidated, often featuring careless renovations or additions. They stand as monuments to the social utopias of their time

Tel Aviv Museum of Art visits Berlin : modern and contemporary art( Book )

2 editions published in 2015 in English and held by 68 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This fully illustrated book is published in conjunction with an exhibition of works from the Tel Aviv Museum of Art held at Martin Gropius-Bau in Berlin, to mark 50 years of diplomatic relations between Germany and Israel. The publication features 72 works selected from three departments at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art: Modern Art, Prints and Drawings, and Israeli Art. The focus lies on modern classics by artists such as Alexander Archipenko, Max Beckmann, Marc Chagall, Edgar Degas, Erich Heckel, Alberto Giacometti, Wassily Kandinsky, Jackson Pollock, Ludwig Meidner, Pablo Picasso, Mark Rothko, Egon Schiele, and Lesser Ury, which are supplemented by video works and installations by up-and-coming Israeli artists such as Yael Bartana, Guy Ben-Ner, Nevet Yitzhak, Nira Pereg, and Michal Helfman, who address personal, social and political topics. This juxtaposition creates a unique and stimulating dialogue, reveals intriguing relationships and allows for a new reading of the works. Offering a broad view of its multifaceted collection, the book also details the history of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, from its beginnings in a modest residential home in 1932 to its impressive latest building addition in 2011, and allows a peek into the development of its collection, from its first works to the most recent acquisitions
