In diesem grossformatigen Bilderbuch begegnen wir auf jeder Doppelseite einem anderen Kind, das aus seinem Alltag berichtet. Es sind Kinder aus verschiedenen Ländern, aus verschiedenen sozialen Schichten - mal Mädchen, mal Jungen. Die Geschichten setzen ein am ersten Tag des Jahres 1000 (das war damals der 25. März) und setzen sich fort im Abstand von je hundert Jahren bis zum Neujahrstag 2000 (insgesamt elf Selbstporträts). Jeder Bericht wird ergänzt durch stichwortartig gegliederte Sachinformationen zur Zeitgeschichte. Da erfährt man beispielsweise, dass im Jahr 1300 in Venedig die ersten Brillen erzeugt wurden oder wie ums Jahr 1600 in England allmählich Gabeln (als Essbesteck) in Gebrauch kamen. Die detailreichen Farbzeichnungen ergänzen und erweitern die Texte. Diese Bilder wirken insgesamt auch lebendiger als die kindlichen Ausführungen, welche mir meist zu informativ gestaltet sind. Das Buch eignet sich gut zum Anschauen und Erzählen ab Kindergartenalter - zum selber Lesen erst für Kinder ab etwa acht Jahren. Ab 6 Jahren, ****, Katharina Eggenschwiler
