For blacks, Vietnam became a war within a war as they faced discrimination in promotion, coveted assignments, and recognition for valor. Eventually, African American soldiers fought back against injustice, organizing into blood-brother groups to foster racial pride. Coming home, black Vietnam veterans suffered not only the neglect and derision experienced by white veterans, but also the despair of still being treated as second class citizens. Also includes an interview with Wallace Terry, the compiler of "Bloods, an oral history of the Vietnam War."
