Futurism by Centre Georges Pompidou( Book )

22 editions published in 2009 in English and French and held by 336 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume traces the Futurist movement from its origins in Italy to the international creative forum. The Futurists's aim was to express the energetic, dynamic, and violent quality of contemporary life, especially as embodied in the motion and force of modern machinery. Futurism embodied the same reality that it tried to capture: a dynamism that reflected the changing structure of the visible world. This work is illustrated with some 130 works by luminaries such as Boccioni, Balla, Picasso, Braque, Leger, Sonia and Robert Delaunay, Duchamp, and Malevich, the book explores different modes of expression within shared themes -- the lighting of modern cities, dance, crowd movement, and the speed of new mechanical means of transport. It includes essays by the world's leading authorities on Futurism and the avant-garde
Hopper by Edward Hopper( Book )

12 editions published in 2012 in 3 languages and held by 327 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This volume presents a definitive Hopper monograph. Published for a massive retrospective at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid, and the Grand Palais in Paris, it approaches Hopper's relatively small oeuvre in two sections. The first covers the artist's formative years from approximately 1900 to 1924, examining a selection of sketches, paintings, drawings, illustrations, prints and watercolors, which are considered alongside works by painters that influenced Hopper, such as Winslow Homer, Robert Henri, John Sloan, Edgar Degas and Walter Sickert. The second section considers the years from 1925 onwards, addressing his mature output through chronological but thematic groupings."--Jacket flap
David Hockney by Marco Livingstone( Book )

5 editions published in 2017 in English and French and held by 285 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A full career retrospective of one of the greatest and most popular living artists, lavishly illustrated with works from across the artist's six-decade career David Hockney has been delighting and challenging audiences for almost sixty years. This lavishly illustrated publication reasserts Hockney as a serious thinker and a highly innovative artist constantly challenging the conventions of artistic expression, without losing the characteristic verve, humour and colour of the work. Hockney?s book describes more than 200 works including painting, drawings, photographs, watercolours, iPad drawings, and his most recent multi-screen works. Edward Hopper and the blank canvas( Visual )

2 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 273 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This documentary examines American realist painter Edward Hopper's life, including testimonies from people who knew him, and by those inspired by his work, like German filmmaker Wim Wenders. From Mad Men to Blade Runner and The Simpsons, Hopper's scenes of modern American life, most notably Nighthawks, have been recreated in myriad films and TV shows, while his style has influenced the likes of Alfred Hitchcock and Terrence Malick. Obsessed with the everyday, Hopper depicted all-night diners, cinemas, gas stations, hotel lobbies, and a theater, filling them with seemingly isolated and alienated figures because he believed loneliness was an inherent feature of city life. This documentary reveals the social and cultural context surrounding Hopper's work, while also exploring his independence as a painter, the many references to his work in film, and the widespread reproduction of his works

Magritte : the treachery of images by René Magritte( Book )

7 editions published in 2017 in English and held by 196 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In this beautiful monograph, a collection of revelatory essays focuses on five common images in René Magritte's work-fire, shadows, curtains, words, and the fragmented body. Featuring vibrant reproductions of more than 100 works, this book helps readers understand how the artist employed these images in ways both deceptive and realistic. The book explores how he distorted accepted interpretations of classic symbols; why he so often used words as elements of his paintings; and how he applied aspects of the theater in his works. As Magritte's paintings have become subsumed by the very commercialism they sought to ridicule, this volume takes a fresh look at an artist whose familiarity masks an incredible gift for deception and rapier-like intellect"--

Dictionnaire de l'objet surréaliste by Didier Ottinger( Book )

14 editions published in 2013 in French and Italian and held by 166 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

1 edition published in 2017 in English and held by 153 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Walker Evans was one of the most important American photographers of the 20th century. His focus on everyday life in America, in both urban and rural settings, makes him also one of the most relatable. This retrospective volume traces Evans' career through more than 300 images-from his first photographs of the late 1920s to his Polaroids of the 1970s. Organized thematically, the book examines topics such as Evans' relationship with the impresario Lincoln Kirstein, his work in postcards and magazines, and his lifelong exploration of the American vernacular. In addition, this volume features items from the photographer's own collection, including personal writings, signage, postcards, and other ephemera. Through these ancillary objects and a thorough overview of Evans' career, readers will come away with a better understanding of a photographer whose iconic photographs remain timeless
Magritte : la trahison des images by René Magritte( Book )

8 editions published in 2016 in French and English and held by 138 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"L'exposition "Magritte.

12 editions published in 2010 in French and English and held by 126 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Picasso-mania : [exposition], Paris, Grand Palais, Galeries nationales, 7 octobre 2015-29 février 2016 by Pablo Picasso( Book )

13 editions published in 2015 in French and English and held by 84 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Picasso et l'art contemporain? Picasso contemporain?
