Cézanne & Giacometti : paths of doubt by Paul Cézanne( Book )

9 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 247 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Paul Cezanne (1839-1906) has been the artist's artist of choice for more than a century now, and there seems to be no end to the inspirational forces embedded within his work. Despite the sixty-two years separating their births, it is almost impossible to avoid drawing comparisons between the lives and works of Cezanne and Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966). Both men began with a violent period of creation, focusing on sex and struggle until a decisive creative shift meant that they instead devoted themselves to the task of realistic representation. Even in his works which seem stylistically unrelated, Giacometti made frequent allusions to the master from Aix." "With essays by Felix A. Baumann, Tobia Bezzola, Inken Freudenberg, Donat Rutimann, Poul Erik Tojner, and Veronique Wiesinger, this publication closely examines the development of this affiliation, revealing how an appreciation of Giacometti's work can shed new light on Cezanne's artistic achievements and exploring the possibility that - in spite of chronological complications - this relationship was one that benefited both artists."--Jacket

Olafur Eliasson : Riverbed, Louisiana by Ólafur Elíasson( Book )

3 editions published in 2014 in English and Danish and held by 82 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Olafur Eliasson's take on Louisiana is radical, fascinating and unique. The central work in the first solo exhibition at the museum by the Danish-Icelandic artist is a huge, sitespecific project that reverses the relation between nature and art. The transitions between inside and outside, culture and staged nature, become fluid and transitory - and the progress of the visitor through the museum becomes a central issue. Eliasson's exhibition is an enhancement of our gaze at the museum, at ourselves and at the world. Olafur Eliasson's exhibition at Louisiana engages with the museum's unique identity. The exhibition consists of three sections that each thematize the encounter between Eliasson's art and Louisiana as a place. The central work, Riverbed (2014), is based on the unique connection between nature, architecture and art that characterizes the museum. Transforming the entire South Wing into a rocky landscape, Eliasson focuses on inhabiting space in a new way and inserts new patterns of movement into the museum. Exhibition: Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebaek, Denmark (20.08.2014-04.01.2015)

Daniel Richter : lonely old slogans by Daniel Richter( Book )

8 editions published in 2016 in 3 languages and held by 68 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The German artist Daniel Richter (b. 1962) Daniel Richter arrived on the art scene in the 1990s with a highly expressive abstract formal idiom that evoked associations with his earliest artistic career as a designer of for instance album covers for a number of punk rock bands in Germany of the 1980s. Since the years around the turn of the century, however, Richter has exclusively painted figurative pictures, often described ? also by himself ? as a kind of new history painting. But they lack any reproduction of the specific historical events; the pictures seek rather to capture a particular contemporary spirit, marked by the death of the great political utopias. Richter?s paintings are both thematically and formally related to German Expressionism and painters such as Max Beckmann (1884-1950) and George Grosz (1893-1959), who in the years before World War II painted acerbic, humorous and profoundly socially critical, allegorical pictures. Daniel Richter takes a similar approach to painting, which according to him is always ideologically positioned in relation to the surrounding world.00Exhibition: Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebaek, Denmark (08.09.2016-08.01.2017)

Tara Donovan by Tara Donovan( Book )

2 editions published in 2013 in German and English and held by 55 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Renowned American artist Tara Donovan (born 1969) creates sculptural objects of enigmatic beauty by utilizing and experimenting with simple, everyday objects such as Scotch tape, drinking straws, paper plates, needles, plastic rods, toothpicks, mylar and buttons. At first these abstract objects resemble enlarged cellular structures, or living organisms from the depths of the ocean. "What I'm striving for is to be an alchemist and transcend the material," Donovan says. "It's more of a mimicking of the way of nature, the way things actually grow." Her method is also allied to an American Minimalist sculptural tradition that includes artists such as Sol LeWitt, Robert Irwin and James Turrell. This volume presents eight works made between 2004 and 2012, as installed at the Arp Museum in Germany and the Louisiana. 0Exhibition: Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebaek, Denmark (February 8 - July 28 2013) / Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck, Remagen, Germany (29.9.2013-16.3.2014)
