Israel in Ägypten by George Frideric Handel( )

2 editions published in 2009 in German and held by 238 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Latest release on VIVAT brings Mendelssohn's astonishing reconstruction of Handel's great oratorio Israel in Egypt. Mendelssohn's 1833 Düsseldorf performance has been painstakingly reconstructed from fragments and sources across Europe: the large and colourful orchestra, playing nineteenth-century instruments, produces vivid new sonorities, and the double choir sings magnificently. Listeners familiar with Handel's 1739 version will also find new numbers, significant changes to the order of movements and very different orchestrations. The work starts with a thrilling, pure-Mendelssohn overture, mixing life and energy with moments of exquisitely shifting instrumental colours. There is fine solo singing from solo sopranos Lydia Teuscher and Julia Doyle, alto Hilary Summers, tenor Benjamin Hulett, and bass Roderick Williams: Robert King and The King's Consort are on top form."--Presto Classical website

Admeto : re di Tessaglia by George Frideric Handel( Visual )

9 editions published between 2006 and 2015 in Italian and English and held by 109 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Axel Köhler stages an outstanding production of Admeto, one of Handel's masterworks. Georg Friedrich Haendel's Admeto is considered one of the most successful operas produced in the first half of the 18th century. Along with Radamisto, Giulio Cesare, Tamerlano, Rodelinda and Alessandro, which were also written in this period, Admeto belongs to Handel's so-called "London operas"--Which were all composed for the Royal Academy of Music. Though born in Halle, Germany, Handel spent most of his adult life in London and became a British subject in 1727. Axel Köhler, the celebrated counter-tenor who is active in Munich, Halle and Berlin -- now also well-known for his work as a director -- has brought Admeto into the modern era in timeless style by the skilful application of imaginative theatrical digressions. Köhler's production at the Halle Opernhaus revisits a work that encompasses comedy, tragedy and almost absurd grotesqueness and gives it a convincing metaphor in the form of a modern hospital

Don Quichotte by Georg Philipp Telemann( Recording )

5 editions published in 1993 in German and held by 60 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
