Alternative approaches for upgrading effluent quality for lagoon based systems : report by R. E Clement( Book )

7 editions published between 1992 and 1994 in English and held by 31 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Municipal Industrial Strategy for Abatement (MISA) program began in 1987, with the goal of virtually eliminating toxic chemicals discharged to surface waters. This included the establishment of best available technology economically achievable (BATEA) effluent limits for both industrial and municipal sector sewage treatment plants. Lagoon-based sewage treatment systems are generally used in rural and semi-rural communities as a low cost alternative to conventional secondary sewage treatment. To establish BEATA in these areas, alternatives must be evaluated that would improve lagoon effluent and establish costs. This project evaluated existing performance data of various lagoon-based sewage treatment systems throughout Ontario, especially those using the Sutton and New Hamburg processes. The review included effluent quality, design, operation, maintenance, and cost considerations
Potential funding mechanisms for implementation of remedial action plans and their impact on users beneficiaries, polluters and society( )

2 editions published in 1992 in English and held by 19 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Under the Canada-Ontario Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, Remedial Action Plans are required for identifying, controlling and abating sources of aquatic pollution for 17 areas of concern on the Canadian side of the Great Lakes. Cost estimates include costs related to sewage treatment plants, industrial and agricultural sources of pollution, urban runoff, sediments and habitat restoration. Costs will need to be updated, depending on the selection of priority remedial actions

Greater Toronto area urban structure concepts study : summary report by IBI Group( Book )

6 editions published in 1990 in English and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This report summarizes the results of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) urban structure study, drawing on the more detailed material in 8 background reports, plus highlights of the study and its findings. The report describes the development of 3 generic urban structure concepts for the GTA, illustrating different ways the area might develop over the next 30 years, and comparing the concepts for infrastructure requirements and costs and other important criteria relating to urban function and the quality of life. Comparisons are made in structure, economic impetus, transportation, hard services, greening/environment, human services, external impacts and overall capital and operating infrastructure costs

Background report : water strategic evaluation of scenarios by R.V. Anderson Associates Limited( Book )

4 editions published in 1995 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The purpose of this assessment was to evaluate what impact, if any, different distributions of growth (population and jobs) would have on the wastewater servicing requirements of the Ottawa-Carleton region. The assessment was performed through the development and analysis of nine development alternatives. Major subsystems of the wastewater system were examined separately: the urban core, suburban systems, the Pickard Environmental Centre wastewater treatment plant, and the rural area. The assessment identified and categorised system expansion or upgrades required to support the development as follows: common needs, found with all scenarios; and focus-based needs specific to individual focuses. Alternative solutions were evaluated for each deficiency with the overall objective of identifying the necessary infrastructure in the most cost- efficient and environmentally sensitive manner possible
A Wastewater strategy by Godfrey Associates Ltd( Book )

3 editions published in 1993 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The environmental quality of life within the City of Saint John and the surrounding region is vital to its economic and cultural well being. Presently, a large portion of the wastewater generated within the City discharges untreated into the local receiving waters at various outfall locations. In 1991, the City authorized an engineering study with two components: a study of the harbour environmental quality and a study of the wastewater treatment for the city. This study provides an overview of the existing infrastructure and facilities, as well as a summary of alternatives for expanded collection and treatment systems, together with implementation sequences for construction and budgeting which were developed by the study. Conclusions reached with respect to the feasibility of storm water separation are also reported

This report describes the design and practical experience gained from the operation of a small activated sludge wastewater treatment facility, incorporating zero effluent discharge through evapotranspiration utilizing a multi-clonal poplar forest. Secondary treated effluent was seasonally applied to a forested plantation through an automated sprinkler system with the rate calculated daily based on information from an automatic weather station and using a modified Penman approach
