Film is set in Seattle and concerns a grunge girl band, No Exits, that is on the verge of landing a record deal. Jimmy, the former boyfriend of the band guitarist Shelly, has reappeared. She left him originally because his friend had raped her, but until now, he had not known that. In the mean time, Shelly has fallen in love with the band singer, Suzy, but she still loves Jimmy, too, which makes Suzy unhappy, especially since she is becoming a feminist; at one point she remarks that the film The graduate is about a stalker. The conflict is about to threaten the band. Many of the characters are students at the University of Washington or Evergreen State College. In one sequence, the girls shoplift in an adult bookstore while the owner is distracted by an offer of sex from one of them. One character is a zine publisher
