Java generics and collections by Maurice Naftalin( )

5 editions published between 2006 and 2007 in English and held by 388 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This comprehensive guide shows you how to master the most important changes to Java since it was first released. Generics and the greatly expanded collection libraries have tremendously increased the power of Java 5 and Java 6. But they have also confused many developers who haven't known how to take advantage of these new features. 'Java Generics and Collections' covers everything from the most basic uses of generics to the strangest corner cases. It teaches you everything you need to know about the collections libraries, so you'll always know which collection is appropriate for any given task, and how to use it. Topics covered include: Fundamentals of generics: type parameters and generic methods Other new features: boxing and unboxing, foreach loops, varargs Subtyping and wildcards Evolution not revolution: generic libraries with legacy clients and generic clients with legacy libraries Generics and reflection Design patterns for generics Sets, Queues, Lists, Maps, and their implementations Concurrent programming and thread safety with collections Performance implications of different collections."--Publisher description
Introduction to functional programming by Richard Bird( Book )

29 editions published between 1986 and 1997 in 3 languages and held by 296 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Updated and revised, the book clearly expounds the construction of functional programs as a process of mathematical calculation, but the mathematics is restricted to that relevant to the actual construction of programs
Functional programming, Glasgow 1991 : proceedings of the 1991 Glasgow Workshop on Functional Programming, Portree, Isle of Skye, 12-14 August 1991 by Rogardt Heldal( Book )

8 editions published in 1992 in English and held by 150 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume contains the papers presented at the latest Glasgow Workshop on Functional Programming, held in Portree on the Isle of Skye, 12-14 August 1991. These workshops have been held annually by the Glasgow Functional Programming group since 1988 and provide a valuable forum for members of the group and invited contributors from industry and other institutions to discuss current research work. The 29 papers contained in this volume, many of which have been rewritten since the original presentation, deal with both the theoretical and pragmatic aspects of functional programming, each paper summarising the central issues of its subject area. A variety of themes emerged from the workshop, including relational algebra and its application to hardware design, partial evaluation and program transformation, implementation techniques, and strictness analysis. Among the specific areas covered in this volume are: a new sharing mechanism for the TIM; evaluation order analysis for lazy data structures; extending deforestation for first order functional programs; a semantics for relational programming; abstractions in Ruby; and operational theories of improvement in functional languages. Functional Programming, Glasgow 1991 provides a comprehensive overview of current research in this field and will be of interest to anyone involved in the theory of functional programming or its application to practical problems

This volume is published in Honor of Philip Wadler on the occasion of his 60th birthday, and the collection of papers form a Festschrift for him. The contributions are made by some of the many who know Phil and have been influenced by him. The research papers included here represent some of the areas in which Phil has been active, and the editors thank their colleagues for agreeing to contribute to this Festschrift. We attempt to summarize Phil Wadler's scientific achievements. In addition, we describe the personal style and enthusiasm that Phil has brought to the subject
XQuery from the experts : a guide to the W3C XML query language by Howard Katz( )

4 editions published in 2003 in English and held by 15 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The individual perspectives on the concepts behind the XQuery language offered by XQuery from the Experts will be of great value to those who are seeking to understand the implications, opportunities, and challenges of XQuery as they design future information systems based on XML." --Michael Champion, Advisory Research and Development Specialist, Software AG XQuery answers the growing need for a functional XML search and transformation standard. Backed by the full weight of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), XQuery is being extremely well received by the IT community worldwide. The first major XML language that takes advantage of the benefits of strong typing provided by XML Schema, XQuery has the versatility to manipulate both XML and non-XML data and provides a valuable connection between the world of XML and relational databases. In XQuery from the Experts , select members of the W3C's XML Query working group come together to discuss every facet of XQuery. From Jonathan Robie's introductory "XQuery: A Guided Tour" to Mary Mary Fernández, Jérôme Siméon, and Philip Wadler's "Introduction to the Formal Semantics," XQuery is revealed in a way that both novice programmers and industry experts can appreciate. Edited by long-time XML expert and programmer Howard Katz, coverage ranges from strictly technical chapters to comparative essays such as Michael Kay's "XQuery, XPath, and XSLT," which explores the common ancestry of all three languages, and Don Chamberlin's "Influences on the Design of XQuery," which details the process behind XQuery's design. Key coverage includes: Denise Draper on "Mapping Between XML and Relational Data" Michael Rys exploring "Integrating XQuery and Relational Database Systems" Jim Tivy's analysis of "A Native XML DBMS" Mary Mary Fernández, Jérôme Siméon, and Philip Wadler, presenting "Static Typing in XQuery" Information presented in both a tutorial and a reference framework for use by XML professionals of any level For IT managers, professionals, programmers, or anyone involved with XML, XQuery from the Experts is an invaluable resource. 0321180607B07212003

Artifact for "Gradual Session Types", appearing in ACM SIGPLAN International Conference on Functional Programming by Atsushi Igarashi( )

2 editions published in 2017 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Abstract: This artifact contains programs in Haskell and Racket that implements the statics and the dynamics of the ICFP 2017 paper "Gradual Session Types". <br>The Haskell program is a type checker for the language in the paper.<br>It has various options to pretty print the output of the type checker documented in a separate README file.<br>One option is to generate input terms suitable for use with the Racket program.<br><br>The PLT-Redex script implements the operational semantics presented in the paper.<br>It's currently not well integrated with the type checker.<br>The type checker's output has to be cut-and-pasted into Redex
