Writings by Western Icelandic women by Kirsten Wolf( )

11 editions published between 1996 and 2014 in English and held by 1,083 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"There are two Icelands. One is the island in the North Sea, settled since Viking times. The other is "Western Iceland," the communities throughout North America, settled by Icelanders in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and which still maintain strong ties to the "old country."" "This collection of short stories and poems spans seventy-five years of writing by Western Icelandic women writers. It includes translated work by little-known early writers, such as Undina, who wrote before the turn of the century, as well as work written in English by prominent writers such as Laura Goodman Salverson, twice a winner of the Governor-General's Award. These short stories and poems reflect a range of experiences common to immigrant women from many cultures."--Jacket

The legends of the saints in Old Norse-Icelandic prose by Kirsten Wolf( )

5 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 892 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

With The Legends of the Saints in Old Norse–Icelandic Prose, Kirsten Wolf has undertaken a complete revision of the fifty-year-old handlist The Lives of the Saints in Old Norse Prose. This updated handlist organizes saints’ names, manuscripts, and editions of individual lives with references to the approximate dates of the manuscripts, as well as modern Icelandic editions and translations. Each entry concludes with secondary literature about the legend in question. These features combine to make The Legends of the Saints in Old Norse–Icelandic Prose an invaluable resource for scholars and students in the field."--pub. desc
The saints in Old Norse and early modern Icelandic poetry by Kirsten Wolf( )

6 editions published in 2017 in English and held by 685 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The Saints in Old Norse and Early Modern Icelandic Poetry is a complimentary volume to The Legends of the Saints in Old Norse-Icelandic Prose (UTP 2013). While its predecessor dealt primarily with medieval prose texts about the saints, this volume not only focuses on medieval poems about saints but also on Icelandic devotional poetry created during the early modern period. The handlist organizes saints' names, manuscripts, and editions of individual poems with references to approximate dates of the manuscripts, as well as modern Icelandic editions and translations. Each entry concludes with secondary literature about the poem in question. These features combine to make The Saints in Old Norse and Early Modern Icelandic Poetry an invaluable resource for scholars and students in the field."--

Viking Age : everyday life during the extraordinary era of the Norsemen by Kirsten Wolf( Book )

8 editions published between 2013 and 2014 in English and held by 228 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Though infamous for their pirating and raiding, active Vikings were actually only a tiny fraction of the total Scandinavian population during the so-called Viking Age. This exploration of their culture goes beyond the myths into the prosaic realities and intimate details of family life; their attitude toward the more vulnerable members of society; their famed longships and extensive travels; and the role they played in the greater community. In addition to images and maps, a timeline lays out Viking history."--Publisher description

A female legendary from Iceland : "Kirkjubæjarbók" (AM 429 12mo) in The Arnamagnæan Collection, Copenhagen by Kirsten Wolf( Book )

6 editions published in 2011 in English and Old Norse and held by 44 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The manuscript AM 429 12mo was written c. 1500 for the use of the nuns at the Benedictine monastery Kirkjubr̆ in southern Iceland, from which it derives its name, Kirkjubj̆arbók. The book was probably made in the nearby Augustine monastery, Øykkvibr̆. It comprises ten texts that were translations of Latin legends based on female saints, relating their terrible suffering and later martyrdom. The majority of the female saints were among the most venerated in Iceland. The manuscript is beautifully illustrated, making it unique in an Icelandic context, which may explain why it survived the Reformation. The text is reproduced in a diplomatic version, which on the CD-ROM is accompanied by a normalised version as well as the Latin texts
