Use of conceptual models in case studies : dynamic concept analysis by Seppo Kontiainen( Book )

6 editions published in 1991 in English and held by 18 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Dynamic Concept Analysis (dca) is introduced as a means of building conceptual models in case studies and using information of concept relations in developing general and individual models to depict a particular phenomenon. Dca enables holistic studies of complex phenomena and analyzes the relationships between concepts to express these relations as an information structure. Dca is applied in the following studies: (1) "Dynamic Concept Analysis (dca): Integrating Information in Conceptual Models" by S. Kontiainen uses dca to analyze different phenomena by building "information structures" and "conceptual models"; (2) "Individual Models of Adult Learning" by S. Kontiainen uses dca to analyze adult learning processes; (3) "Institutional Models of Higher Education" by S. Kontiainen and M. Tight uses dca in a study of British institutions of higher education and defines five ideal-typical institutional types; (4) "Individual Models of Moral Judgement" by S. Kontiainen and K. Helkama looks at Kohlberg's stages of moral reasoning in terms of dca; (5) "Understanding Different Outcomes in Decision Making" by S. Kontiainen and others uses dca in studies of different outcomes in decision-making processes, focusing on how conceptual analyses and models are useful when trying to understand a particular decision; and (6) "Transforming a General Model into Individual Models: Individual Models of Affective Experience of Unemployment" by S. Kontiainen and J. Manninen uses dca to transform a general model of experience of unemployment into individual models; and (7) "Supervision of Teaching Practice in Adult Education: Student's and Supervisor's Perceptions of Supervision" by S. Kontiainen and J. Hobrough gives an example of the use of dca and conceptual models in analyzing supervision in teaching practice. (Rlc)

Comparison of attitudes of trained trainers, untrained trainers, and trainees to teaching in general practice by Roy Cox( Book )

3 editions published in 1973 in English and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Vocational training in general practice has been the focus of increasing attention in medical education in recent years. This paper makes a comparison between the attitudes of trained trainers, untrained trainers, and trainees in order to see what effects courses in general practice teaching might have on attitudes. Objectives in the frames of reference, general attitudes, or orientations that might enable trainers and trainees to work together with greater understanding are also explored. (Author/SPG)

An analysis of course objcetives activities and assessment : a case study of a course for teachers in general practice by Roy Cox( Book )

in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A model is presented to help educators develop course objectives. The analysis begins with a summary of the approach to general practice teaching on which the course is based. Other topics examined are the approach to the content of the trainee year, teaching and management of learning, and the organization of the practice and the community setting for teaching. For each of these areas assumptions and values are listed, and objectives are separated into attitudes, knowledge, and skills. Learning activities are related to objectives, and what is to be assessed and methods of assessment are also listed in columns in the outline. Criticisms of behavioral objectives, the level of generality of objectives, and different educational uses of specifications of objectives are discussed. (SW)

The Behavior of Supervisors Assessed by Student Teachers. ResearchBulletin No. 37 by Seppo Kontiainen( Book )

1 edition published in 1973 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This study concerns student teachers' views of the behavior of supervisors during the school practice periods in two Finnish Teachers' Colleges. It is divided into four parts. In part one, the structure of the behavior of supervisors as assessed by student teachers is analyzed, and the concepts used to describe the behavior are defined. Part two deals with the general problems of studying behavior, and a method for interpreting behavior by relationships between the concepts of a behavior is developed and discussed. In part three, the relationships between the concepts of the behavior of supervisors are defined by the method for interpreting behavior. Part four gives the interpretations of the behavior of supervisors based on the information about the relationships between the concepts of the behavior. The study gives primarily diagnostic knowledge about the behavior of supervisors and emphasizes the need to continue analyses to find out how the behavior should be changed to achieve better results in supervision. Integrating Information in Conceptual Models. Use of an Information Structure in Building Conceptual Models for Behavioural Studies. Research Bulletin 70 by Seppo Kontiainen( Book )

1 edition published in 1989 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This study intoduces a strategy for analysing different kinds of phenomena by building "information structures" for analysing how parts make a whole in complex systems. The strategy introduced may be of use when there is a need to understand complex systems or situations; E.G., in various studies of adult education when education is seen as closely related to individual and environmental issues. The paper introduces some areas of research where this approach could be applied; in conceptual analysis, theory building and research design, analyses of change, historical studies, decision making, innovative studies, and in educational planning and assessment. Data from an earlier study on supervisory behavior in teacher training as assessed by student teachers is used to give an example of how to build an information structure and how to use this information in building conceptual models for general and individual descriptions of a behavior. An example is also given of how to apply an information structure called Dynamic Concept Analysis in studies of change. (Jd)
