Symplectic 4-manifolds and algebraic surfaces : lectures given at the C.I.M.E. Summer School held in Cetraro, Italy, September 2-10, 2003 by Denis Auroux( )

23 editions published in 2008 in English and Undetermined and held by 626 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Modern approaches to the study of symplectic 4-manifolds and algebraic surfaces combine a wide range of techniques and sources of inspiration. Gauge theory, symplectic geometry, pseudoholomorphic curves, singularity theory, moduli spaces, braid groups, monodromy, in addition to classical topology and algebraic geometry, combine to make this one of the most vibrant and active areas of research in mathematics. It is our hope that the five lectures of the present volume given at the C.I.M.E. Summer School held in Cetraro, Italy, September 2-10, 2003 will be useful to people working in related areas of mathematics and will become standard references on these topics. The volume is a coherent exposition of an active field of current research focusing on the introduction of new methods for the study of moduli spaces of complex structures on algebraic surfaces, and for the investigation of symplectic topology in dimension 4 and higher

Homological mirror symmetry and tropical geometry by Ricardo Castaño-Bernard( )

8 editions published in 2014 in English and held by 340 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The relationship between Tropical Geometry and Mirror Symmetry goes back to the work of Kontsevich and Y. Soibelman (2000), who applied methods of non-archimedean geometry (in particular, tropical curves) to Homological Mirror Symmetry. In combination with the subsequent work of Mikhalkin on the "tropical" approach to Gromov-Witten theory, and the work of Gross and Siebert, Tropical Geometry has now become a powerful tool. Homological Mirror Symmetry is the area of mathematics concentrated around several categorical equivalences connecting symplectic and holomorphic (or algebraic) geometry. The central ideas first appeared in the work of Maxim Kontsevich (1993). Roughly speaking, the subject can be approached in two ways: either one uses Lagrangian torus fibrations of Calabi-Yau manifolds (the so-called Strominger-Yau-Zaslow picture, further developed by Kontsevich and Soibelman) or one uses Lefschetz fibrations of symplectic manifolds (suggested by Kontsevich and further developed by Seidel). Tropical Geometry studies piecewise-linear objects which appear as "degenerations" of the corresponding algebro-geometric objects

Complex geometry : collection of papers dedicated to Hans Grauert by Ingrid C Bauer( )

5 editions published between 2002 and 2013 in English and held by 75 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book is a collection of research articles in algebraic geometry and complex analysis dedicated to Hans Grauert. The authors and editors have made their best efforts in order that these contributions should be adequate to honour the outstanding scientist. The volume contains important new results, solutions to longstanding conjectures, elegant new proofs and new perspectives for future research. The topics range from surface theory and commutative algebra, linear systems, moduli spaces, classification theory, Kähler geometry to holomorphic dynamical systems

Karl Weierstraß (1815-1897) by Wolfgang K??nig( Book )

1 edition published in 2016 in German and held by 14 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Mit diesem Band würdigt das Berliner Weierstraß-Institut für Angewandte Analysis und Stochastik (WIAS) seinen Namenspatron, den berühmten Mathematiker Karl Theodor Wilhelm Weierstraß (1815-1897) aus Anlass seines 200. Geburtstags. With this volume, the Weierstraß Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS) at Berlin honors the man that inspired its name, the famous mathematician Karl Theodor Wilhelm Weierstraß (1815-1897), on the occasion of his 200th birthday. Due to the importance of many of his results and innovations and the proverbial 'Weierstrassian rigor', the name 'Weierstraß' has received in many mathematical fields a firm status in the general linguistic usage. In the present book, eight outstanding mathematicians and historians of mathematics shed light on central aspects of Karl Weierstraß's life and work in original articles written for the general public
