Throughout most of the 1960s, Podstraský published film photographs (he also worked as the photographer for the Slovak Film Studios in Koliba, Bratislava), he began to publish live documentary photography at the end of this decade, in the fleeting days of the liberalized social situation in Czechoslovakia. He took advantage of the fading cultural climate which continued for some time, even after the occupation of Czechoslovakia by the Warsaw Pacts armies in August 1968. The next two to three years were the most prolific period of his career. In 1971, the first and so far last article on his work was published in a professional journal. At that time, Ludovit Hlavac, a photographic historian and curator, also noticed his work an published a brief profile of Podstrasky in his his extensive 'History of Slovak Photography', published in 1989

Ján Galanda by Ján Galanda( Book )

2 editions published in 2014 in Slovak and English and held by 14 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The history of Slovak photography is full of unnoticed, semi-forgotten or completely forgotten figures. However, until recently, only a few were as unknown as Ján Galanda. Like most modern Slovak photographers, Ján Galanda was an amateur; in his civil life he worked as a bank clerk. He didn't begin to systematically work with photography until the first half of the 1930s, and like the majority of amateur photographers, he mainly documented his leisure time interests and activities, such as travel, hiking and sports. As opposed to most of the shots of this type, Galanda's photos are created with precision and feature a demanding and at times refined composition. During his many trips abroad, he compiled a set of photos portraying a lifestyle that was seldom seen in his impoverished homeland. His shots, a kind of Slovak glamour style, were unique in Slovakia

Ivan Matejka by Ivan Matejka( Book )

2 editions published in 2017 in Slovak and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The photographic work of Ivan Matejka is connected with several paradoxes. He possessed a genetically-determined head start compared to other photographers - blessed with distinctive talent, he created his first noteworthy shots at the age of sixteen. It seemed that he took off as a photographer at full speed, as his photographs were quickly exhibited, published and from time to time even awarded. However, he remains a little-known photographer. He has only had two smaller solo exhibitions, and sporadically participates in cultural life; in fact, almost no one has seen his work from the past two decades.0Ivan Matejka perceives the world as "chaotic and messy". However, when it comes to photography, he thinks that "this mess must be removed. In a photographic picture, there must be order like the gears in a watch?" And so, for Matejka, roses bloom even in a junkyard. One simply has to be close enough, and supremely alert in order to observe the world opening up for us in countless new views

The story of the life of photographer Viliam Malík is extraordinary in many respects. He got off to a quick start - at the age of twenty five he was already one of the most influential photographers in Slovakia, he was also one of the few well respected Slovaks in the Prague centre of Czechoslovak photography. He attracted attention not only by his photographs, but also his ability to organize. In 1943, four years after the split of Czechoslovakia and the formation of the Slovak state, up to the beginning of the 1950s, he was the head of the association of amateur photographers with the strange name Photo Club of Slovak Tourists and Skiers
