Quantum mechanics in phase space : an overview with selected papers by Cosmas K Zachos( )

Wigners quasi-probability distribution function in phase space is a special (Weyl) representation of the density matrix. It has been useful in describing quantum transport in quantum optics; nuclear physics; decoherence, quantum computing, and quantum chaos. It is also important in signal processing and the mathematics of algebraic deformation. A remarkable aspect of its internal logic, pioneered by Groenewold and Moyal, has only emerged in the last quarter-century: it furnishes a third, alternative, formulation of quantum mechanics, independent of the conventional Hilbert space, or path inte

The Launching of la Belle Epoque of high energy physics and cosmology : a festschrift for Paul Frampton in his 60th year and memorial tributes to Behram Kursunoglu ; proceedings of the 32nd Coral Gables Conference, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, 17-21 December 2003 by Thomas Curtrigh( )

3 editions published between 2004 and 2005 in English and held by 358 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Recent experimental results with direct bearing on theories of cosmological dark matter/energy, as well as continuing work on neutrino masses and mixing, have invigorated both particle physics and cosmology, and should continue to do so well into the 21st century, thereby launching a beautiful new epoch for these fields. The expert contributions from this conference took stock of these developments. This volume contains papers by over 40 physicists that summarize and interpret the newest findings, and suggest future avenues to be explored. A number of new theoretical ideas are also presented, dealing with progress in understanding the dynamics and symmetries of strings and branes, renormalization in quantum field theory, possible Lorentz violation effects, and related problems. Ongoing and next generation gravitational and neutrino experiments are described, and the issues of unification are dealt with in the context of, and beyond, the standard model. Together, the contributions provide a useful blend of experimental and theoretical physics from many prominent physicists, including three Nobel Laureates. The volume also contains information of an historical nature, concerning the contributions to physics by Paul Frampton, on the occasion of his 60th year, and summarizing the career of Behram Kursunoglu (19222003)

A concise treatise on quantum mechanics in phase space by Thomas Curtright( Book )

11 editions published between 2013 and 2014 in English and held by 108 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This is a text on quantum mechanics formulated simultaneously in terms of position and momentum, i.e. in phase space. It is written at an introductory level, drawing on the remarkable history of the subject for inspiration and motivation. Wigner functions, density matrices in a special Weyl representation, and star products are the cornerstones of the formalism"-
