Wigners quasiprobability distribution function in phase space is a special (Weyl) representation of the density matrix. It has been useful in describing quantum transport in quantum optics; nuclear physics; decoherence, quantum computing, and quantum chaos. It is also important in signal processing and the mathematics of algebraic deformation. A remarkable aspect of its internal logic, pioneered by Groenewold and Moyal, has only emerged in the last quartercentury: it furnishes a third, alternative, formulation of quantum mechanics, independent of the conventional Hilbert space, or path inte

Proceedings of the 32nd Coral Gables Conference : the launching of la belle epoque of high energy physics & cosmology : a
festschrift for Paul Frampton in his 60th year and memorial tributes to Behram Kursunoglu : Fort Lauderdale, Florida, 1721
December 2003 by Conference on High Energy Physics and Cosmology(
)
9 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 1,171 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Recent experimental results with direct bearing on theories of cosmological dark matter/energy, as well as continuing work on neutrino masses and mixing, have invigorated both particle physics and cosmology, and should continue to do so well into the 21st century, thereby launching a beautiful new epoch for these fields. The expert contributions from this conference took stock of these developments. This volume contains papers by over 40 physicists that summarize and interpret the newest findings, and suggest future avenues to be explored. A number of new theoretical ideas are also presented, dealing with progress in understanding the dynamics and symmetries of strings and branes, renormalization in quantum field theory, possible Lorentz violation effects, and related problems. Ongoing and next generation gravitational and neutrino experiments are described, and the issues of unification are dealt with in the context of, and beyond, the standard model. Together, the contributions provide a useful blend of experimental and theoretical physics from many prominent physicists, including three Nobel Laureates. The volume also contains information of an historical nature, concerning the contributions to physics by Paul Frampton, on the occasion of his 60th year, and summarizing the career of Behram Kursunoglu (19222003)

"Contains the proceedings of a NATO Advanced Research Workshop on these interrelated disciplines. The principal goal of the workshop was to advance the pace discoveries in theoretical research on the chosen topics by providing an opportunity for presentations of new results, and by providing a forum to discuss likely directions for the future work. The workshop brought together a unique combination of leading researchers in integrable systems, conformal field theory, quantum groups, and knot theory, thereby providing an opportunity for a crossfertilization of ideas."Preface

A concise treatise on quantum mechanics in phase space by
Thomas Curtright(
Book
)
11 editions published between 2013 and 2014 in English and held by 108 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"This is a text on quantum mechanics formulated simultaneously in terms of position and momentum, i.e. in phase space. It is written at an introductory level, drawing on the remarkable history of the subject for inspiration and motivation. Wigner functions, density matrices in a special Weyl representation, and star products are the cornerstones of the formalism"
