Dramatic biography of boxing great Muhammad Ali, which focuses on the ten-year period of 1964-1974. In that time, the brash, motor-mouthed athlete quickly dominates his sport, meets and marries his first wife, converts to Islam (changing his name from Cassius Clay), and defies the United States government by refusing to submit to military conscription for duty in Vietnam. " ... Despite the delicate task of portraying such a beloved person in the sometimes uncomfortable reality of his life today, this profile sensitively showed the pain and the joy, the sorrow and the inspiration still generated by the man who was once called 'the most recognizable person in the world.' ... Now beset with the effects of Parkinson's syndrome, Ali at first glance appears to be a shell of his former self. Yet, as '60 Minutes' cameras followed Ali for three months, it became clear that Ali remains sharp both intellectually and emotionally."--1996 Peabody Awards entry form.
