Kaikin tavoin : uutta suomalaista kuvanveistoa = By any means : new Finnish sculpture( Book )

1 edition published in 2017 in Finnish and held by 10 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

What defines sculpture today, what will define it tomorrow? 'By Any Means' presents the work of 20 young Finnish sculptors, all of whom have in their own way extended the concept of sculpture, including into areas that as yet are barely seen as fitting the definition.00In the interviews in this book the artists talk about how they solve problems related to their work. At the same time, they shed light on their own thinking, their sources of inspiration and their focuses of interest. Professor Jussi Pallasmaa's essay profiles the life and art of Raimo Utriainen (1927-1994) - a major innovator in Finnish sculpture

Palavat tornit : otteita Suomen taiteen 1980-luvusta = Burning towers : excerpts from the Finnish art of the 1980s( Book )

2 editions published in 2016 in Finnish and English and held by 9 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Kouvola Art Museum Poikilo?s summer exhibition Burning Towers brings visitors back to the tumultuous 1980s, to a time when Finnish art became free, more varied and more international. The exhibition offers a view into the art of that decade: paintings, graphics, sculptures, photography and video. Young artists ignored the political dogmatism of the 1970s and threw themselves with unprecedented gusto into both the history of art and subjective feelings and experiences, and abandoned the intellectuality of conceptual art and minimalism. Another new aspect was the forceful emergence of female artists. Of course there were strong men as well? many of them were sculptors or artist of the older generation who were given a new wind by the 1980s. The exhibition has been curated by art critic Timo Valjakka, whose active career as an artist spans the 1980s.00Exhibition: Kouvola Art Museums, Poikilo, Finland (19.05.-04.09.2016)

Koen Vanmechelen : it's about time by Koen Vanmechelen( Book )

2 editions published in 2018 in English and held by 9 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Koen Vanmechelen is an internationally acclaimed conceptual artist, whose practice ranges all media from paintings, sculpture and video to large bio-installations, social events and public engagement projects. The extensive articles and voluptuous illustrations in this book offer an in-depth overview of the unique vision of the Belgian artist, including his famous chicken-breeding program, the Cosmopolitan Chicken Project. Vanmechelen works at the intersection of art, nature and science. Key concepts of his art include diversity, domestication, and cross-breeding. A profoundly ethical artist, he is concerned about the state of the Earth and a sustainable future for all species. In his work he seeks both symbolically and concretely to open perspectives into a future where people and other species live in a state of balance. Exhibition: Serlachius Museum Gösta, Finland (19.05.-16.09.2018)
Jiri Geller : fuck the world! by Jiri Geller( Book )

1 edition published in 2017 in Finnish and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In his works, sculptor Jiri Geller draws upon the imagery of popular culture, using it as his toolbox to achieve his artistic aims. Geller?s contradictory works with their various levels are marked throughout by polished surfaces and perfect forms, and their motifs have included space and religious figures since the beginning of the artist?s career. Geller has now added balloons, skulls, ice-cream cones and fireworks to his subjects? and recently also smileys and astronauts. Demanding in terms of technique and materials, Geller?s works also have a humorous undertone, which, however, can suddenly become serious.00Exhibition: Serlachius Museum, Museum Gösta, Mänttä, Finland (28.10.2017-22.04.2018)
