Woher der Honig kommt: Bienen fliegen von Blüte zu Blüte und füllen ihren Magen mit köstlichem Nektar. Gleichzeitig sammeln sie Pollen, die sich als Blütenstaub in ihren Haaren verfangen. So bewappnet fliegen sie zurück in ihren Stock, wo sie ihren Gefährtinnen mit einem Tanz die Richtung und Entfernung des wertvollen Blütenschatzes beschreiben, und wo sie den gewonnenen Vorrat ablegen. Nun beginnt eine wunderbare Arbeitsteilung. Während die jungen Bienen Wachs produzieren, um neue Waben bauen zu können, füllen die Arbeiterinnen die leeren Zellen sofort mit Nektar. Bei den Bienen gibt es eine strikte Arbeitsteilung. Die Baubienen bauen die Waben, die Arbeiterinnen sind für den Rest der Arbeit zuständig. Während die männlichen Bienen, die Drohnen, eine eher untergeordnete Rolle spielen, indem sie lediglich von den Arbeiterinnen gefüttert werden, hat die Bienenkönigin die wichtige und einzige Aufgabe, jeden Tag neue Eier zu legen.
