His girlfriend, Ines (Paula Echevarria), a beautiful orphan girl living in Aranjuez, hosted by his uncle, Don Celestino Santos of Malvar (Manuel Galiana), humble priest distant relative of the powerful minister Godoy (Manuel Tejada). During a visit to the Royal Site for the bride, Gabriel coincides with the historic uprising of March 19 against Godoy, whose palace is assaulted by the mob. Thinking about the girl's sake, Don Celestino consent to Inez moved to Madrid to live with their relatives also don Mauro Requejo and sister Restituta with cloth shop in the capital. Gabriel, to be near his girlfriend, is offered as a waiter in the shop. With the help of the boy John of God, who is in love with the girl, tries to kidnap Agnes, for Don Mauro wants to marry her. And after many vicissitudes, Gabriel gets away with taking advantage of the tumultuous welcome Ines that the people of Madrid surrenders to the new king Fernando VII, Desire. The loving couple takes refuge in the boarding house where the boy lives. His project is to flee to Cadiz. Don Celestino, the priest uncle of Agnes, fleeing persecution they suffer in their relationship with Godoy, meets with the couple. But times go scrambled because under the pretext of their way to Portugal, Napoleon's troops entered Spain. They have done so as friends and allies, but the French soldiers are unpopular with the population of Madrid, who are considered invaders. And on May 2 explodes revolt against the imperial outposts.
