Heaven and its wonders, and hell. From things heard & seen by Emanuel Swedenborg( Book )

49 editions published between 1872 and 1995 in English and held by 357 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is perhaps the best known of Swedenborg's revelatory works. In this book, the author describes his visions of heaven and hell. Swedenborg's account of his visions would influence countless thinkers and authors—including William Blake, Edgar Allen Poe, Arthur Conan Doyle, Jorge Luis Borges and Richard Matheson. In Swedenborg's view, angels exist all around us, though they can only be seen by those whose "spiritual eyes" have been opened (as Swedenborg's were). Angels are men and women, just as they were on earth, only more perfect. Made of pure spirit, angels' appearances, clothes, houses and even cities can change drastically depending on their mental state

The true Christian religion, containing the universal theology of the New church by Emanuel Swedenborg( Book )

24 editions published between 1877 and 1996 in English and held by 244 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Swedenborg's last published work during his lifetime, this book contains a summary of the extensive teachings Swedenborg received throughout his period of visions. Swedenborg considered his theology to be the original teachings of Christ, which had become obfuscated through centuries of misinterpretation. According to him, what he offered was neither a "theology" nor a "philosophy," but rather a direct spiritual revelation from God. Swedenborg's "true Christian religion" is based on chaste and loving marriage, a rejection of the doctrine of the Trinity, and a belief that both faith and works are necessary to receive salvation. Swedenborg also believed that the Last Judgment had already occurred, though it was only visible in the spirit world

Divine Love and Wisdom presents a vision of a universe so full of Divinity that there is no room for sectarianism. He reaches out to the secular mind with a vision of order and beauty pregnant with meaning and direction and appeals to human experience and reflection (rather than scriptural interpretation) in making the case for the presence of God's love and wisdom. It is not just that there is a purpose underlying creation; it is that we share in that purpose and are essential to its fulfillment. From God's infinite love and wisdom to our own individual desires and perceptions, there is an underlying unity on which we can rely. - [from the publisher]
