In 1846, Vogler's Magnetic Health Theater has developed quite a controversial reputation for its mesmerizing performances. The troupe consists of magician Dr. Albert Emanuel Vogler, his assistant Aman (his wife Manda disguised as a man), Granny the elderly potion mistress, coach driver Simson, and the sly barker Tubal. These men believe the magician to be a charlatan, and are suspicious of his supposedly astonishing magic show, and demand to inspect it for themselves before it is shown to the general public.
