This article analyses the process of economic reform in the newly independent Republic of Slovenia. Traditionally, Slovenia has been the richest part of the former Yugoslavia and its economy has been outward oriented. Following liberal laws adopted in 1988, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has increased markedly, although most projects have been small. The authors describe the general framework applicable to FDI (wholly or partially foreign owned companies, joint ventures and capital requirements). The business registration procedures as well as the framework of the privatisation programme are presented in so far as they have an impact on FDI. Finally, the authors provide advice as to how to structure an acquisition in Slovenia.--SCAD summary
