The Queen
(
Visual
)
6 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 2,270 libraries worldwide The Queen begins with a familiar epigraph "Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown"--Henry IV, Part II. The action of the film takes place during the week following the death, on August 31, 1997 of Diana, Princess of Wales. One of its accomplishments, courtesy of adroit use of newsreel and other contemporary footage, is to remind viewers of the deep sadness that surrounded that event. It is also about the divergent and potentially ruinous ways the monarch and Prime Minister Tony Blair responded to the resulting torrent of national grief.

1 edition published in 2000 in English and held by 1,216 libraries worldwide In Venice during 1570, Desdemona, daughter of a powerful nobleman, elopes with Othello, a proud Moor celebrated as the city's most awesome warrior. Iago, who has served alongside Othello for a decade, is angered when the general chooses another lieutenant, Cassio, as his second in command. In retribution, Iago sabotages Cassio's promotion and convinces Othello that the handsome officer is cuckolding him. Othello writhes under the tortures Iago has created, and in a fit of jealousy smothers Desdemona, who caresses her beloved husband as she dies. Unfortunately, as adapted by director Parker, this is Shakespeare Lite, a primer for those who refuse to wrap themselves in his poetry, but do want to know what happened. The result is a movie that will not give viewers much of an idea of Shakespeare's play, and may inadvertently lead to ideas about interracial love that were not much on Shakespeare's mind. The audience must think, "There, but for the grace of God, go we," or the production has not worked.
