This report describes the Eisenhower Leadership Program, an approach to leadership learning that aims to educate students for democracy. Based on the premise that democracy at risk threatens the fabric of the national culture, the document presents five key elements considered essential for educating students to become democratic leaders. These elements are as follows: (1) establish a democratic environment in the school and classrooms; (2) engage students in critical thinking regarding problems they are asked to address; (3) make leadership learning a collaborative effort; (4) involve students in real learning experiences and situations outside the classroom; and (5) allow time and space for reflection. Recommendations for attaining these goals are provided via models enacted by participating Eisenhower Leadership Program schools. Strategic leadership : the general's art by Georgia Jones Sorenson( Book )

6 editions published in 2009 in English and Undetermined and held by 50 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

What distinguishes strategic leadership? According to top U.S. Army generals, the difference lies in the discipline of thinking. Because the problems strategic leaders face are often multi-faceted and can involve ethical dilemmas, these leaders must move beyond thinking tactically and take a longer term, broader approach to finding solutions. Through the U.S. Army War College and other senior-service colleges, the Army teaches strategic thinking to its officers, developing some of the most esteemed leaders of our time. Strategic Leadership: The General's Art provides aspiring leaders with an understanding of the behavior and competencies that make a good strategic leader. In line with the curriculum followed by senior officers attending the U.S. Army War College, this book teaches leaders how to think strategically in a volatile, uncertain environment and thereby to provide transformational leadership and shape outcomes. With contributions from senior military leaders as well as experts in the fields of strategic leadership, systems and critical thinking, and corporate culture, this invaluable reference shows readers how to move from mid-level manager to strategic-thinking senior executive. Strategic Leadership: The General's Art offers: Strategic thinking and leadership processes taught by the military to its senior leadership ; Strategic leadership theories and practical exercises to help put those theories into action ; The valuable knowledge that Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and non-profit organizations gain through U.S. Army War College workshops-- Publisher's description

Encyclopedia of leadership( Book )

3 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

From the earliest times people have been entranced by stories about leaders - about Greek city state rulers, Roman consuls, Chinese emperors, religious potentates, military conquerors, and politicians. Perhaps more importantly, leadership is a challenge and an opportunity facing millions of people in their professional and personal lives. The Encyclopedia of Leadership brings together for the first time everything that is known and truly matters about leadership as part of the human experience. Developed by the award-winning editorial team at Berkshire Publishing Group, the Encyclopedia includes hundreds of articles, written by 400 leading scholars and experts from 17 countries, exploring leadership theories and leadership practice. Over a third of the work - some 500,000 words - is devoted to biographical essays and to case studies focused on leaders (and their followers). Articles and sidebars show leadership in action-in corporations and state houses, schools, churches, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations. Questions The Encyclopedia of Leadership will answer: What is a leader? What is a great leader? How does someone become a leader? What are the types of leadership?
