"This guide is a vital tool for effective use of the recently released MMPI-2-RF. Yossef S. Ben-Porath, a leading expert on the MMPI instruments, provides detailed descriptions of the scales of the test, tables with interpretive recommendations for each scale, and an abundance of illustrative cases from a wide variety of settings, including forensic (criminal and civil), medical, and personnel screening. A comprehensive reference for users of the new test, this book sets the standard for interpretation of, and instruction on, the MMPI-2-RF"--Provided by publisher

Continuity of personality pathology constructs in an inpatient sample : a comparison of linear and count regression analyses using the PID-5 and MMPI-2-RF by William H Menton( )

1 edition published in 2016 in English and held by 23 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The present investigation addresses two issues facing contemporary personality assessment researchers - one theoretical, and one methodological. The theoretical issue relates to continuity between categorical models of personality dysfunction (e.g., the polythetic system described in DSM-IV) and emerging dimensional models of pathological personality (e.g., the experimental dimensional model included in DSM-5 for research purposes). Methodologically, the use of linear regression techniques has in recent years been challenged with increasing frequency on the grounds that such techniques make unwarranted (and often incorrect) assumptions about the assessment data they are often used to model. Count regression techniques have been proposed as appropriate modeling alternatives in such cases; however, few attempts have been made to investigate the practical implications of using count regression over linear regression. These theoretical and methodological issues are explored using an inpatient psychiatric sample of participants with suspected personality psychopathology. Personality disorder symptom counts are modeled using both linear and count regression techniques. As predictors in these models, select dimensional personality indicators are drawn from two conceptually similar self-report scale sets - the five broad trait domains from the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5), and the PSY-5 scales from the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2-Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF). Results suggest a high degree of continuity between dimensional and categorical models of personality dysfunction, with PID-5 and PSY-5 scales generally predicting a meaningful amount of variance in personality disorder symptom counts. Moreover, these predictors evidence a differential pattern of association with symptoms of particular categorical personality disorders, suggesting that personality pathology may be specified using dimensional personality traits rather than categorical labels. Furthermore, comparisons between linear and count models suggest that both techniques produce similar results in these data in terms of predictors identified as statistically important and also in terms of relative strengths of trait predictors
Predicting treatment outcomes among low back pain patients using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2-Restructured Form by Anthony Michael Tarescavage( )

1 edition published in 2015 in English and held by 23 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The purpose of the current study was to investigate the reliability, concurrent validity, and criterion validity of Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2-Restructured Form (Ben-Porath & Tellegen, 2008/2011) scores in a sample of 811 chronic low back pain patients (346 males, 529 females) beginning treatment in a short-term interdisciplinary pain rehabilitation program. We calculated internal consistency coefficients, mean-item correlations, and standard errors of measurement for all substantive scales, as well as zero-order correlations with collateral medical record information and self-report testing. For criterion validity analyses, we examined associations with emotional distress and pain disability outcomes. Results indicated reliability and validity for most of the MMPI-2-RF substantive scales. Descriptive analyses across diagnostic groups indicated that the MMPI-2-RF Restructured Clinical Scales had substantially improved discriminant validity when compared to the MMPI-2 Clinical Scales. Higher scale scores from all the MMPI-2-RF substantive domains were associated with worse emotional distress outcomes, with measures of negative emotionality demonstrating the strongest associations with poorer post-treatment functioning. Consistent with the bio-psychosocial model of pain, higher scores on scales from the Emotional/Internalizing, Thought Dysfunction, and Interpersonal domains were associated with worse pain disability outcomes. Implications of these findings and limitations of this study are discussed

Issues in the Psycho-Social Adjustment of Refugees by Yossef S Ben-Porath( Book )

3 editions published in 1987 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The refugee experience--migrating against one's will--is a source of immense psychological stress. This paper therefore draws on empirical findings and theoretical discussions from the psychological, psychiatric, nursing, social work, sociological, and anthropological literature in order to identify the major stressors encountered in the experience of refugees before, during, and after their flight from their native lands. Accordingly, after a background discussion of the global refugee phenomenon and a review of the literature, the refugee experience is divided into three task-defined periods. The first occurs prior to flight, when refugees bear both the stressors that lead to their decision to flee, and the difficulties associated with making the actual decision. The second, the period of flight, occurs between the onset of flight and actual resettlement--often involving years of waiting and frustration. The greater part of the paper is devoted to the third period of resettlement, and portrays stressors associated with familial discord, occupational concerns, cultural barriers, and mental health difficulties. Specific stressors associated with refugee women and children are then discussed, and concluding remarks touch upon lessons to be learned and thoughts about the future. A bibliography of over 100 references is included. (Te)
