The OCLC Research WorldCat Identities project is ending. The work provided valuable insight into how to mine bibliographic data for insight into the People and Organizations that create and serve as subjects library materials. The findings demonstrated the power of data mining over the world’s largest set of bibliographic metadata and highlighted the value of collaborative collective cataloging. The WorldCat Identities data has positively impacted OCLC’s work to build the WorldCat Entities application and the 150 million Person and Work descriptions accessible through it. This work will continue to build our entity ecosystem to support the future knowledge work of librarians.

The WorldCat Identities web application will be retired and shut down in the coming months and the data is no longer being updated. The most recent version of the data is from July of 2022. As OCLC continues to build out the WorldCat Entities ecosystem, please use it as a source for persistent Person identifiers. https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity

The Rise of American Air Power( )

1 edition published in 2004 in English and held by 21 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This prizewinning book is the first in-depth history of American strategic bombing. Michael S. Sherry explores the growing appeal of air power in America before World War II, the ideas, techniques, personalities, and organizations that guided air attacks during the war, and the devastating effects of American and British "conventional" bombing. He also traces the origins of the dangerous illusion that the bombing of cities would be so horrific that nations would not dare let it occur-an illusion that has sanctioned the growth of nuclear arsenals. "A brilliant, biting and yet not ungenerous study of a momentous idea, the idea of war from the air."--Philip Morrison, Scientific American "Sherry's book demands to be read."-D.J.R. Bruckner, New York Times Book Review "A big, heroic and chilling story, and Michael Sherry tells it with style, controlled passion, and analytical sophistication. This book is the best kind of strategic history."-Ken Booth, International Affairs "Both informative and provocative."-John Gooch, Times Higher Education Supplement "Sherry describes the course of the war in brilliant detail as a tug of war between what it was felt planes should do and what, at any moment, they could do."-Garry Wills, New York Review of Books "This riveting study has a distinct significance in today's world."-Library Journal

Siblings of Children with Special Health and Developmental Needs : Programs, Services and Considerations. ARCH Factsheet Number 23 by Donald J Meyer( Book )

1 edition published in 1993 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This fact sheet provides an overview of the special concerns of siblings of children with special health and developmental needs, describes one model approach addressing these concerns, and outlines considerations for respite care agencies. Special concerns of siblings include feelings of loss and isolation, an unmet need for information about the disability or illness, increased caregiving demands on older sisters, overidentification, pressure to achieve, guilt, resentment, and concerns about their and the sibling's future. Positive aspects experienced by such siblings are also noted. Characteristics of appropriate programs are suggested, including an opportunity to meet other such siblings and to discuss joys and concerns they have in common, a chance to learn more about the implications of the special needs individual, and an opportunity for parents and service providers to learn more about siblings' common concerns. A model format for 4-hour meetings held monthly or bimonthly is briefly described. Agencies are offered a checklist to facilitate the inclusion of siblings in planning and implementing family support services. Several print and organizational resources are suggested. (DB)

Program Evaluators Handbook Sampling Model by Donald J Meyer( Book )

1 edition published in 1969 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

One of six summaries of workshop sessions (See TM 000 130), designed to strengthen the evaluation of costly programs and their effects, this handbook presents an analysis of both random and nonrandom sampling errors by application of the Bayesian model. This model attempts to formalize the process and procedures of inference from data through explicit consideration of the researcher's beliefs, insofar as they bear upon the study underway. Thus, if he feels that nonresponse error, for example, is likely to be large, this feeling is incorporated into the model. Major error sources for each parameter are sampled and values of all the variables are determined to show how these parameters define the sampling problem. Another method involves formulation of error ratios in terms of certain established values. An example of the application of the model to a survey using mailed questionnaires is given. (LR)
