Makerspaces : a practical guide for librarians by John J Burke( Book )

"A makerspace is an area in a library where users can use tools and equipment to design, build, and create all sorts of different things. It may be a dedicated room or a multipurpose space in which a collection of raw materials and resources can be utilized as desired. Projects range from prototyping product designs with 3D printers to programming robots, to creating art out of recycling items. This practical guide will help librarians: develop, budget for, and implement makerspaces, write grant proposals for funding, understand the mindset behind the maker movement in order in order to meet patron needs. 'Makerspaces: A Practical Guide for Librarians' also includes useful case studies, descriptions of equipment and new technologies, and models for planning and assessing projects."--
Intronet : a beginner's guide to searching the Internet by John Burke( Book )

7 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 408 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Burke, author of Learning the Internet: A Workbook for Beginners (Professional Media, LJ 4/1/96), has written an excellent introduction to Internet research, suitable for both students and general readers. In a clear, conversational style, he describes the types of resources available on the Internet, general net search tools, and tools for finding specific resources (e.g., people, companies, files). Also included are guidelines for evaluating and citing web materials. Unlike some other recent guides on Internet research, such as Ned Fielden and Maria Garrido's Internet Research: Theory and Practice (Professional Media, LJ 4/1/99), this one does not attempt to cover all aspects of the research process or list net resources for various disciplines. Instead, it emphasizes matching the search tool to the information need and teaching the principles of effective searching. This narrower focus makes for a more practical text that will help searchers at nearly all levels use the Internet more productively. Highly recommended for all professional collections. Surfaces and interfaces II : physical and mechanical properties : held at Sagamore Conference Center, Raquette Lake, New York, August 22-25, 1967 by John J Burke( Book )

1 edition published in 1968 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Army Materials and Mechanics Research Center has conducted the Sagamore Army Materials Research Conferences, in cooperation with the Metallurgical Research Laboratories of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Metallurgy of Syracuse University, since 1954. The purpose of the conferences has been to gather together scientists and engineers from academic institutions, industry, and government who are uniquely qualified to explore in depth a subject of importance to the Army, the Department of Defense and the scientific corr.munity. This volume, Surfaces and Interfaces ll: Physical and Mechanical Properties, can be considered a continuation, or perhaps an extension, of the information contained in Surfaces and Interfaces I: Chemical and Physical Characteristics. The emphasis in this volume is focused on: the technological significance of surfaces and interfaces; surface sensitive mechanical properties; environment-sensitive properties; control of grain structure; and composite materials. It is felt that the rather ambitious undertaking of the program committee to place the role of "surfaces and interfaces" in its proper context has been achieved. The balance between basic research findings and more applied research allows the reader a certain degree of latitude in the use of the two volumes. The continued active interest and support of these conferences by Col. C. T. Riordan, Commanding Officer, Dr. E. Scala, Technical Di rector, and J. F. Sullivan, Deputy Technical Director, of the Army Materials and Mechanics Research Center is appreciated
