He bargains for a pound of the young man's very handsome and much beloved flesh if the loan is not repaid in full and on time. The elder gentleman swallows hard, and the moneylender has the deal. Will the money get the young man his fair maid? Will the loan be repaid in coin or quivering flesh? Will mercy "droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven"?
