The present dissertation explores the figure of repetition and the concept ofauthenticity as meaningful elements of Bob Dylan’s renovated use of songs likedistinctive artistic discourses. Albeit described as a member of the American popularmusic scene, he has been lately awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature due to hisrestoration of the poetical and the literary in the realm of music processing and the oraltradition.However, literature is not the sole discipline and language Bob Dylan’s songsbring forward. The language of communication, or a middle term use of songs asdiscourses, makes them a great support for Dylan’s communicative objectives. On theone hand, the musical frame provides them with a great intersubjective power. On theother hand, lyrics imitate and refer to language intercourse, and the voice of theinterpreter is related to the voice of the author –a distinct coincidence of songwriters.All these facts add to the way he uses the code of authenticity as understood in the folkcommunity, in the existentialist philosophy, the era of rock ‘n’ roll and the 60scountercultural movements. This aspect of his works help to improve the reliability ofhis song’s discourse as it is explained in this investigation, and it gives Bob Dylan’svoice a special reliability which could be the reason why his discourses have a lot ofpressure meaning something, illuminating people’s minds, because the singersongwriteris more compromised with his speech than any other artist

The title of this thesis ́From the music video to the audiovisual spot: Methodological proposal of analysis through mainstream music' tries to summarize its main purpose; the development of a method that, from a practical perspective, enables to analyze the relationships between two audiovisual elements which are very present nowadays. Throughout this work a methodology is established that enables to conduct a rigorous and comprehensive analysis of the relationships between an audiovisual spot, using mainstream music, and the corresponding music video, where such music is located. Two elements which have evolved from mere products or vehicles of seductive and persuasive nature, designed to promote and sell, to audiovisual objects belonging to the contemporary popular culture. An approach has been adopted to the concepts of Popular music and Cultural Studies in the introduction section, which also includes the state of the art, the hypothesis, the objectives, the methodology and the thesis sources. The second section corresponds to the theoretical framework and research context. It has been divided in for main themes as follows: 1. Social nature and media coverage of music; 2. Music, industry and market; 3. Music and audiovisual culture; and 4. Music and semiotics. The third section has been titled: Subject of Study: Music video and audiovisual spot. Throughout this section each element is studied separately to conclude with an analysis on the relationships between both elements and the hybridizations which are taking place in their increasingly closer interaction

This work intends to contribute to an incipient line of investigation developed by Spanish Universities around popular urban music. Whilst this study mainly focuses on the analysis of the album by the band Canarios entitled Ciclos (1974), it could serve as a basis for future studies on popular music, in general, and Spanish progressive rock in particular. Three methodologies were used: first, a desk-review of sources on the topic of progressive rock, Spanish pop-rock and counterculture, as well as processes of musical change; second, an analysis of musical and para-musical forms of expression; and third, field work consisting in an audio and video interview with the main author of Ciclos. The first objective of this work was to contrast the emergence of progressive rock in Spain with the idea of "delay" in Spanish pop-rock, which would purportedly only be overcome with the political changes of late 70's. In fact, after mid-70's, Spanish pop-rock started assimilating new trends from the USA and the rest of Europe. At that time, Spain was experiencing many social and cultural changes: psychedelic rock and the counterculture ideology of the hippy movement were introduced as well as musical and social changes in pop-rock music. Without them, it would not be possible to understand Spanish progressive rock in the following decade
