Dort gibt es einen alten Bunker und Martin will unbedingt hinein. In Rückblicken blättert Maria die Geschichte ihrer komplizierten Ehe und Martins Aufenthalte in Künstlerkommunen in Griechenland und Marokko auf, ebenso ihr Gefühl, unsichtbar geworden zu sein. Maria macht ausgedehnte Spaziergänge mit Castor im nebligen Herbst und Winter, lernt nach und nach Dorfbewohner kennen. Daneben hält sie die Illusion aufrecht, das Ehepaar sei in Marokko. Sie muss jedoch nach Stockholm und möchte später nach England zurückkommen; doch die Vergangenheit holt sie ein. Dies ist ein durch Andeutungen spannend gehaltener psychologischer Thriller (vgl. Hörbuch in dieser Nr.) und einer der besten Romane des Autors, der eigentlich keine Krimis mehr schreiben wollte (zuletzt "Himmel über London", ID-A 47/13)
